A small cluster of thunderstorms produce several microbursts over Western Jackson County. Winds gusted to 51 MPH at Richards-Gebaur airport knocking down several trees and tree branches 2 to 6 inches in diameter. A small 8 by 14 foot billboard was also blown down along 150 Highway near the airport.Large trees were downed by the thunderstorm winds near the intersection of 131st Street and State Line Road and also near State Line and Cambridge Roads. Numerous cars were damaged by falling trees along 47th Street between the Country Club Plaza and Troost Road. The greatest damage occured near 48th and Walnut Streets in Kansas City when winds, estimated between 70 and 80 MPH, blew off part of the roof from the Country Club Plaza Library. A car traveling along Ward Parkway near the Library was hit by debris from the blown off roof and forced off the roadway. The car went down an embankment with the back end of the car landing in Brush Creek. The driver and two passengers escaped with minor injuries.
