A warm and unstable airmass was located over Iowa. Surface dew point temperatures were surged into the lower to middle 70s ahead of an approaching cold front from the northwest. The freezing level was quite high, over 14,000 feet MSL, thus hail was not a major problem. Most of the storms were not severe, but rather heavy rain producers. A few of the storms did become severe. Nickel size hail fell northeast of Dallas in Marion County. The storm had a VIL value from the WSR-88D of 80 kg/m/m. High winds were reported in a few places. Winds of nearly 70 MPH downed several trees in Union County at Lorimor. Wind damage was also reported in Adams County at Corning.
