The Ohio River remained above flood stage at several points well into June. The first crest, on June 3 and 4, was up to 9 feet above flood stage at Cairo. A second crest around June 15 was 7 feet above flood stage at Cairo. The river finally fell below flood stage at all points by June 22. Thousands of acres of agricultural bottomland were flooded, and some roads closest to the river were water covered. The primary effect of the bottomland flooding was to delay the planting of crops. For the most part, the river receded in time for corn to be planted.
