Early morning thunderstorms in northern Oklahoma produced winds as high as 62 mph in Mooreland in Woodward County. In Medford in Grant County the roof was blown off of a plane hangar and the walls were blown out of another. Total damage was estimated at $20,000.

An isolated severe thunderstorm moved across northeast Oklahoma from Okfuskee County to Delaware County during the late morning and early afternoon of May 17th. Golf ball-size hail fell seven miles west of Okmulgee, and quarter-size hail fell at Haskell. Dime to nickel-size hail fell at several other locations in northeast Oklahoma.

Severe thunderstorms developed and moved across northern Oklahoma during the afternoon. Large hail, damaging winds, and one tornado were reported. The tornado was spotted by a highway patrol officer as it touched down in Woods County about 12 miles south of Dacoma, just west of the Alfalfa County line. The tornado then moved east-northeast into Alfalfa County and evolved into a multiple-vortex tornado as it reached the Carmen area. The tornado finally lifted as it approached McWillie. Damage was concentrated in the Carmen area of Alfalfa County and included: a travel trailer flipped and destroyed south of Carmen and four houses and several outbuildings damaged from one mile south to two miles east of Carmen. In the McWillie area a barn was damaged. Highlines and trees were downed along much of this path. Based on video and eyewitness reports, the tornado was rated as an F2. Other reports from severe thunderstorms included a large peach tree blown down by straight-line winds seven miles southeast of Perry in Noble County. Hail as large as quarters was reported seven miles southwest of Perry in Noble County, in Harper County six miles south of Laverne, in Alfalfa County at the Great Salt Plains Dam, and in Grant County six miles northeast of Medford.

Severe thunderstorms redeveloped in northeast Oklahoma during the late afternoon of May 17th. Thunderstorm winds estimated at 80 to 100 miles an hour just south of Wynona blew a car off a highway into a bar ditch. Strong thunderstorm winds uprooted a large tree in Pawnee and blew down several large tree limbs seven miles northeast of Barnsdall. Thunderstorm winds gusted to 70 miles an hour five miles south of Bartlesville and five miles east of Inola. Quarter-size hail fell at Wynona, at Broken Arrow, and five miles south of Bartlesville. Dime to quarter-size hail fell two miles east of Chouteau, and dime to nickel- size hail fell at several other locations in northeast Oklahoma.
