An isolated severe thunderstorm dropped dime-sized hail south of Carlsbad as it moved south-southeast in advance of a line of thunderstorms. As the line of storms approached from the northeast, a bow echo within the line produced wind gusts of up to 65 mph south of Artesia. As the line of storms moved east, Lovington had at least one telephone pole snapped, and a mobile home destroyed, according to the sheriff's office. Later in the evening, the Artesia area was assaulted with yet another round of severe weather that produced wind gusts up to 65 mph, according to a weather observer.
