A tornado touched down four miles west and one-half mile south of Auburn and did extensive damage to a house, farm, its outbuildings, and power lines along the path of the tornado. A second farmsite was damage three and one-half miles west of Auburn.
A tornado lifted the roof off a house, leveled a 8- by 10-foot playhouse, damaged a storage shed, and knocked down several trees three and one-half miles south of Sterling.

A vertically stacked area of low pressure over Kansas produced a large area of thunderstorms over the northern half of Kansas late in the afternoon. By early evening, these thunderstorms had moved into southeast Nebraska. Strong cyclonic flow around the cold upper low allowed tornadoes to spin down over Nemaha, Johnson, Cass, and Lancaster Counties in Nebraska; and Fremont County in Iowa.
