A squall line moved eastward across the area preceded by strong to gale force south winds. The actual passage of the squall line was accompanied by thunderstorms, some classified as severe when winds gusted to 50 knots or more. Some peak gusts included 61 mph at Bristol and 56 mph at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks.
