Thunderstorm Wind, Teton

Winds from a passing thunderstorm ripped through the Jackson Hole airport late on the 31st. These winds lifted a 115,000 lb 737 jet off the ground, rotated it 90 degrees and dropped it back to the ground. No one was on board the plane but the nose wheel was badly twisted. These winds also pushed a Sky West jet 100 yards down the ramp and blew a tree onto a power line causing a fireball that could be seen for several miles. The winds also created three to five feet waves on Jackson Lake tearing boats from their moorings.
