Thunderstorms across the central Texas panhandle produced dime- to quarter-size hail and 60 mph winds. These reports came for EOC's, Sheriff Offices, radio stations, and storm spotters. In Wheeler County thunderstorm winds took portions of the roof from the Best Western Irish Inn and deposited it on six cars, exposing 18 rooms. Total wind damage in the community of Shamrock was in excess of $200K.
The Imperial Fire Department reported golf ball-size hail in Imperial at 1634 CST. The Crane County Sheriff's Office reported up to nickel-size hail in the city of Crane. In Upton County, the public reported up to quarter-size hail lasted for almost 30 minutes, causing about $250,000 damage to cotton crops. At 1810 CST, a SKYWARN spotter reported 60 MPH winds in Gardendale. The public reported up to quarter-size hail at the intersection of Highways 1357 and 2401 in southwest Glasscock County. The public also reported dime-size hail southeast of Dryden in Terrell County, and many large tree branches down on Highway 33 north of Garden City in Glasscock County. The Midland County Sheriff's Office reported 70 MPH winds in extreme northwestern Midland County. Shortly after this, the NWS recorded a peak wind gust of 61 knots (70 MPH) at Midland International Airport.
