A severe thunderstorm packing winds up to 118 mph and hail up to baseball-size crossed over Marion County. The hardest hit areas were from Lehigh, where baseball-size hail fell, to Goesssel, where winds reached 60 knots then to Hillsboro and down to Peabody, where winds blew up to 60 mph. Some wheat fields were flattened, signs were blown down, trees were heavily damaged, and some mobile homes were damaged. Fallen trees broke windows. In Goessel the winds tore off three-quarters of a mobile home's roof and tossed it 100 yards and another that stored school supplies lost all of its roof. In Goessell damage was estimated between $35,000 to $40,000.
