Numerous trees were blown down along a path about one-half mile long by 100 yards wide near Mountain View Road and Route 44. Several autos were damaged by falling trees in the Route 44 plaza. The National Weather Service investigated and determined this to be caused by a straight line wind, or microburst. About 6600 electric utility customers lost power, mostly in the western part of the state, including 2300 in Torrington, 2000 in Simsbury, and 1000 in East Granby. There were numerous reports of small hail across the northern part of Connecticut.
