Severe weather developed in the cold air behind the first of two Pacific storm systems to hit California. The severe thunderstorm produced wind gusts of 64 mph at the Air Force base.
A weak tornado touched down along Sunland Boulevard and San Fernando Road. Windows were blown out and trees uprooted. One tree smashed onto a car.
A tornado touched down at Newport Beach/Balboa Island vicinity and traveled nine miles to the Tustin Marine Corpse Base. During its course, it traveled parallel to Highway 55. Reports of many trees blown down, windows blown out, and roofs damaged.
