A squall line moved across Vermont ahead of a strong cold front during the late afternoon and evening hours of August 31st resulting in severe thunderstorms across much of the state. Hardest hit were Addison, Chittenden, and Franklin Counties. In Enosburg Falls thunderstorm winds destroyed a mobile home and knocked three off their foundations and damaged the roof of another building injuring one person. In Addison and Chittenden Counties there were numerous reports of large trees downed and uprooted, and power lines downed by thunderstorm winds.
