Gunter Volunteer Fire Department measured a wind gust of 74 mph. A survey from local officials indicated shingle and large tree limb damage in Gunter, along with outbuildings destroyed and barn doors damaged. The damage was consistent with strong straight line winds likely associated with a microburst.

Heavy rainfall from thunderstorms resulted in Dry Creek Road to County Road 84 near the Rio Pojoaque to become impassable due to water over the roadways. Additionally, the intersection at the end of NM 502 and Cities of Gold Road in Pojoaque became impassible due to 4 feet of water over the roadways.

Fannin Electric COOP reported numerous downed power lines, broken power poles, and downed trees across Fannin County, mostly concentrated in the Leonard, Trenton, Ector, and Telephone areas. A total of 8,000 power outages were also reported. Residents of Leonard reported some of the trees fell on cars and homes.

An NWS survey team confirmed that a microburst produced a narrow swath of wind damage in the town of Gillham just south of the Kansas City Southern Railway to just east of Highway 71. The damage consisted almost entirely of uprooted hardwood and softwood trees, although a few softwood trees were also snapped. The damage was particularly concentrated just north of and down a hill from Gillham Baptist Church. The damage pattern was almost entirely unidirectional, pointing to the northeast, and even diverged slightly in a couple of places, which strongly indicated straight-line wind damage with estimated winds near 90 mph.

What this means

A best track is the record a warning agency settles on after the storm, not what it said at the time: position, maximum sustained wind and central pressure every six hours, revised against every observation that came in later. Category is the Saffir-Simpson scale, which runs from Category 1 at 64 kt to Category 5 at 137 kt and reads wind only, so it says nothing about surge or rain. Accumulated cyclone energy adds up the square of the wind through the storm's life, so it counts strength and duration together.
