A feeder band ahead of Tropical Storm Henri produced seven inches of rain in three hours in the Tee-N-Green area of Punta Gorda. Numerous streets were flooded and water lapped into homes due to the wakes produced by passing vehicles. The hardest hit area was Marion Street and the Whidden Industrial area in Punta Gorda, and along Edgewater and Kings Highway in Port Charlotte.

A stationary thunderstorm dropped 5 to 7 inches of rain in one hour near the Brooksville Airport and caused rapid flooding of roads. Emergency Management reported the water retreated as fast as it came, with the flood lasting only for 50-80 minutes. No significant damage occurred due to the lack of homes in the area. The thunderstorm developed on the north side of a tropical low as it moved onshore near Mediera Beach in Pinellas County. This tropical low was formerly known as Tropical Storm Henri that produced winds of 41 knots with gusts to 52 knots at Buoy 42036 100 NM west northwest of Bayport, FL on September 5th at 1200 EST.

What this means

A best track is the record a warning agency settles on after the storm, not what it said at the time: position, maximum sustained wind and central pressure every six hours, revised against every observation that came in later. Category is the Saffir-Simpson scale, which runs from Category 1 at 64 kt to Category 5 at 137 kt and reads wind only, so it says nothing about surge or rain. Accumulated cyclone energy adds up the square of the wind through the storm's life, so it counts strength and duration together.
