November 13, 2017 Earthquake: Jaco, Costa Rica

Two people died from heart attacks at Jaco and 1 died from a heart attack at Coronado. Costa Rica felt this evening of 12 November the impact of three successive earthquakes, the largest of which, at 8.28 pm, had a magnitude of 6,4 degrees and epicenter 23 km southeast of Jaco Beach, in the section of Garabito, with a depth of 10 km. The movement was more intense in the cantons of Quepos, Parrita and Garabito. The National Emergency Commission does not have official reports of direct deaths caused by the earthquake. However, three people died of heart attacks related to the phenomenon, two of them in Jaco and one in Coronado. The OIJ is investigating the deaths. There are also no reports of injured people and the possibility of a tsunami is ruled out. (reference #11941)

During the morning of Monday, the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) maintained that there were three fatalities of the earthquake of 6.9 degrees that affected the country. However, in the afternoon, the daughter of one of the deceased ruled out that her father died due to the tremor, since he suffered a heart attack before the earthquake occurred. (reference #11944)
