AD 1772 Mar, Turkey. News arrived in Istanbul in mid March 1772 about a large earthquake within the confines of Turkey, which destroyed many places with great loss of life. The places affected are not mentioned (reference #9116) Note: this reference lists many earthquakes in the region in this timeframe
Reference #14427: 1772 Jan-Aug, Greece/Turkey. Aegean Islands, “as a result of earthquakes that occurred on various occasions in the Archipelago, up to 5,000 residents and up to 700 houses were destroyed there over an 8- month period” (report “from the lower Elbe River, dated September 12”).
