Low visibility lingers near Cape Newenham but has improved for 
Platinum and Goodnews Bay. Snow showers will linger through early 
this morning before tapering off later this morning. North to 
northeast winds will also flip to southeast this morning before 
turning to northwest this evening.

Snow showers will continue to linger across the Pribilof Islands 
this morning before tapering off through the afternoon. Gusty 
northwest winds will also begin to diminish this evening. While 
drops in visibility are still possible with snow showers that pass 
overhead, sustained periods of half-mile visibility are no longer 
expected.

Southcentral and Southwest Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHCENTRAL ALASKA (Days 1 through 3)...

Snow showers across Southcentral have diminished overnight and
drier conditions are expected for most inland areas through the
remainder of this weekend. Southeasterly flow will dominate as a
front tracks northwards across the Gulf of Alaska, producing
another round of upslope precipitation for the coastal areas,
including Prince William Sound. There will be a gradual rise in
the snow levels as slightly warmer air aloft moves in with the
front. This will allow for a transition from snow to rain at the
surface levels, with snow at the higher elevations by Sunday.

Gale to storm force winds are expected through the Barren Islands
and into Kamishak Bay today, with a brief barrier jet developing
in the northern Gulf tonight. Strong winds are also expected
across southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula and along the ridgeline
of the Kenai and western Chugach Mountains.

.SHORT TERM FORECAST SOUTHWEST ALASKA/BERING SEA/ALEUTIANS (Days
1 through 2: This morning through Sunday)...

Four Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect as two lows bring
impactful weather across the Bering Sea and Southwest Alaska
through Sunday night. The advisory for the Kuskokwim Delta Coast
has been allowed to expire this morning due to improving
conditions, but a blizzard warning has now been issued for
expected deteriorating conditions later this evening through
Sunday morning. Areas under the Winter Weather Advisories, as well
as the newly issued Blizzard Warning are:

- Western Cape Advisory: Through Sunday morning due to prolonged
  snowfall, with blowing snow along the immediate coast tonight.
- Pribilof Islands Advisory: Through Sunday morning, due to
  blowing snow.
- Eastern Aleutians Advisory: Through early Sunday afternoon due
  to blowing snow and strong winds.
- Southern Alaska Peninsula (from King Cove west) Advisory: From
  late Saturday night through early Sunday morning, due to blowing
  snow and strong winds.
- Kuskokwim Delta Coast Blizzard Warning: Saturday evening through
  Sunday morning.
- Heavy to extreme freezing spray is also forecast along the sea
  ice edge through Sunday.

Two lows, one over the Bering Sea, immediately west of Nunivak
Island, and a second low, located south of the Alaska Peninsula,
will rotate around each other in cyclonic fashion
(counterclockwise) through Sunday, before consolidating into a
single dominant low over the northern Gulf of Alaska by Sunday
afternoon or Sunday night. The movement and interaction of both
lows remains forecast to bring widespread, unsettled weather
across the west domain over the next 24 to 36 hours.

While four winter weather advisories remain, the advisory for the
Kuskokwim Delta Coast has been allowed to expire as conditions
have improved with respect to blowing snow and visibility.
However, unsettled conditions are forecast to return to the region
by this evening as a strong pressure gradient expands over the
region and strong offshore winds contribute to renewed
snow/blowing snow and reduced visibility to at or below one
quarter of a mile. A Blizzard Warning has been issued across the
entirety of the Kuskokwim Delta Coast.

Further south it no longer looks like precipitation type will be
in question for the Western Capes, and all snow is now forecast.
As such, an extended period of snow is anticipated through Sunday
morning with accumulations to range from 8 to 12 inches.
Temperatures will remain "relatively" warmer (32 degrees) for the
Eastern Aleutians and Alaska Peninsula due to very strong winds
this afternoon. We are not anticipating that visibilities will
drop much below one-half mile because temperatures will be right
around freezing. In fact, while strong winds continue for the
Southern Alaska Peninsula through late Sunday afternoon, the
Advisory is set to end in the early afternoon because warming
temperatures should keep conditions from becoming too poor. Before
this occurs, however, cooler temperatures pushing through AKPEN
tonight will allow for as much as 5 to 6 inches of accumulating
snow to occur for locations near Cold Bay and King Cove.

Even if you aren't located in an area that's under an advisory,
you may still experience impactful weather in the form of strong
winds, as will be the case for interior Bristol Bay. Looking ahead
to Monday, there will be a brief lull as the two lows exit into
the Gulf. However, another North Pacific low (with winds to gale
or perhaps even storm force) is poised to approach the Aleutian
Islands beginning Monday afternoon.

.LONG TERM FORECAST (Days 4 through 7/Tuesday through Friday)...

There is an energetic high amplitude pattern across the Alaskan
upper level forecast, aided by some pretty strong jet support. The
main feature is an elongated upper trough extending from the
Arctic through the Bering into the North Pacific. A series of weak
low centers merge to briefly intensify the trough on Wednesday
and Thursday, and begin its Eastward track along the Alaska
Peninsula. This trough is expected to weaken and move through
Interior Alaska by the end of the week. The upper ridge stretching
from Western Canada into Northern Alaska weakens more slowly
through the period. A well clustered blend of GFS / ECMWF / UKMET
and Canadian models maintains good continuity with the large scale
features, but considerable uncertainty is evident in the smaller
details through the forecast.

The surface weather portion opens with a decaying low and front
expending its energies with moderate rains along the coast East of
Prince William Sound, with moderate snow inland over higher
terrain. A second, more developed low South of the Eastern
Aleutians spreads locally moderate snow or rain and snow mixed
changing to rain from the Central Aleutians to the Alaska
Peninsula Tuesday. Moderate rain spread over Southwest Alaska and
Pribilof Island, diminishing Wednesday. This low's front moves
over Kodiak Island late Tuesday and continues spreading moderate
to heavy rain over the Southcentral Coast, with snow inland
through the week. Over the Far Western parts of the chain, another
front brings locally moderate rain Thursday through Friday.

.AVIATION...

PANC...Expect VFR conditions for most of the forecast period with
a strengthening Turnagain Arm wind. Winds will likely be light
and northerly to northeasterly this morning within down-inlet flow,
increasing to a 10-15 kt northerly wind as the day wears on.
Higher gusts are possible toward the end of the forecast period.
There is a small chance of spillover precipitation Sunday morning
to afternoon that could result in intermittent MVFR conditions.
