.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will continue will move off the coast tonight. A
warm front is expected to lift through our region on Thursday
and Thursday night, with a cold front passing on Friday
afternoon and evening. A secondary cold front is anticipated for
Saturday afternoon and evening. High pressure returns Sunday
into Monday before becoming unsettled again towards the middle
of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Just a few minor hourly tweaks for the early morning update as
the forecast remains on track...

We will remain under a northwest flow at the mid levels for tonight
and Thursday.

A fair amount of mid and high level cloudiness and convective
debris from a complex of thunderstorms dropping south out of
Lake Erie will keep our region under a mostly cloudy sky for
tonight. The associated precipitation should remain well to our
west. However, some additional showers and thunderstorms are
forecast to develop along the northern and eastern edge of its
wake later on tonight. Some of what is left of that convection
may drift over our region from late tonight into early Thursday
morning.

A warm advection push aloft from the west, and a south to southeast
surface flow will bring additional moisture into our region on
Thursday. As a result, we are expecting a mostly cloudy sky.
Conditions are anticipated to remain rather stable in our region,
limiting the development of showers and scattered thunderstorms. It
seems as though the best potential for showers and isolated thunder
on Thursday afternoon will be in the upslope regions of eastern
Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey.

Lows tonight are expected to be in the middle and upper 50s in the
elevated terrain of the Poconos and northern New Jersey, and in the
60s elsewhere. The cloud cover will keep temperatures from rising
above the 70s in much of our region on Thursday. Readings should not
get out of the 60s up north.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
Thursday evening and Friday morning will feature similarities
to the night before, however convection will be more widespread
in nature. As the main surface low tracks into the southern
Great Lakes and Western NY, convection is forecast to initiate
in the vicinity of southern Ontario/Lake Erie and dive
southeastward across Pennsylvania as a MCS depicted by the
majority of the 12Z CAM guidance. In addition, a 30-40kt LLJ
appears to develop Thursday night before moving offshore early
Friday, which should aid in keeping some elevated instability
due to a modest temperature inversion near the surface. Warm
front will continue tracking east and lift north of our area by
Friday morning.

In terms of the severe risk for the Thursday night-Friday morning
timeframe, the entire area remains in a General Thunder risk. Will
continue to monitor trends through tomorrow to determine if any
potential upgrade is needed. The bigger threat continues to be the
previously mentioned hydro threat. PWAT values will be near/in
excess of 2.00 inches and the warm cloud layer is forecast to be
around 12,000 feet; so periods of moderate to heavy rain are likely.
Thus, WPC has our entire area in at least a Marginal Risk for
Excessive Rainfall, while introducing a Slight Risk for Excessive
Rainfall over parts of the Lehigh Valley, Poconos, and Berks County
into Friday morning. Rainfall amounts should generally range from
0.5-1.0 inches, with localized amounts in excess of 2 inches
possible.

Friday's forecast has not really changed from the previous update as
most of the morning convection should push south of our area by late
morning. Temps should warm into the low to mid 80s under partly to
mostly cloudy skies ahead of a cold front that tracks across the
area during mid-late afternoon hours. This may potentially spark
another round of showers and thunderstorms across the southern half
of the area; depending on the stability of the atmosphere following
the morning MCS. For now, SPC has part of the area in a Marginal
Risk for severe weather across Southern NJ and Delmarva, with
any convection waning into Friday evening. Lows Friday night
will be more seasonable with upper 60s/low 70s along the Coastal
Plain and cooler north and west.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
To summarize the long term period, several shortwaves embedded
in the longwave trough will affect our weather throughout the
period as the upper level ridge across the Central US finally
begins to break down.

The first shortwave will pivot through the area on Saturday, before
exiting Saturday night. A secondary cold front tracking out of
Canada sweeps across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Due to the
passage of the cold front from the night before, we will be lacking
moisture and the better forcing remains over the interior Northeast.
Thus, have only kept a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in
the forecast for Saturday; best chances remaining north. Sunday
should be the better half of the weekend as front moves offshore and
high pressure builds under light northerly flow. Temps on Saturday
will be close to average, but with a reinforcing shot of cooler air
on Sunday, temps will be pleasant in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Quiet weather continues through Monday as high pressure moves
overhead and eventually offshore. Ensemble guidance continues to
shows signs of a rather potent upper level trough swinging into the
area on Tuesday and Wednesday. Due to uncertainty with timing and
strength, have opted to stay in close relation to the NBM with a
chance of showers and storms on Tuesday and Wednesday.

.AVIATION /06Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Tonight...Mainly VFR. A chance of showers after 07Z. Isolated
thunder is possible. Variable wind 6 knots or less. Medium
confidence.

Thursday...Mainly MVFR ceilings around KRDG and KABE, and mainly VFR
ceilings over areas to the southeast, including KPHL. A chance of
showers. Isolated thunder is possible. South to southeast wind
around 10 knots. Gusts of 15 to 20 knots possible, particularly
for Lehigh Valley and coastal terminals. Medium confidence.

Thursday night...VFR early, likely becoming sub-VFR after
midnight with showers and thunderstorms overnight. SE-S winds
around 5-10 kts with locally higher gusts possible in
thunderstorms. Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Friday through Friday night...Sub-VFR early with exiting showers,
likely becoming VFR by mid-day. Another chance for lowering ceilings
in the afternoon/early evening especially south, before lifting to
VFR overnight. S-SW winds around 10 kts veering and becoming W-NW
around 5 kts at night following frontal passage. Locally higher
gusts possible. Moderate confidence.

Saturday through Saturday night...VFR expected, although sub-VFR
conditions are possible north and west with afternoon
showers/storms. NW-N winds around 5-10kts. Moderate confidence.

Sunday through Sunday night...VFR. N-NE winds around 10 kts during
the day, becoming NE-E winds around 5 kts at night. High confidence.

Monday...VFR. E-SE winds around 10 kts. High confidence.

An east to southeast wind 5 to 10 knots tonight is forecast to
become southerly 10 to 15 knots on Thursday. Wave heights on our

Rip currents...

For Thursday, there is a MODERATE risk for the development of
dangerous rip currents for the New Jersey beaches only. The risk
will generally remain LOW along the Delaware beaches. A 10-15
knot sustained southeasterly wind will remain largely parallel
to the Delaware coast, but have an onshore component to the New
Jersey coast. This and increasing breaking wave heights to 3-4
feet with an onshore moderate to long period swell will lead to
the increased rip current risk.

For Friday, building seas and southerly winds near 15-20 mph
will result in a MODERATE risk of rip currents for all New
Jersey and Delaware Beaches.
