.SYNOPSIS...
A warm front lifts to our north today, then a cold front arrives
later Thursday before settling to our south Friday. Low pressure
tracks nearby Saturday following by high pressure briefly building
in later Sunday. Another storm system moves through later Monday,
then a cold front arrives by later Tuesday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 10am...A few light returns are appearing on radar, but not
much precip has made it to the ground this morning due to a dry
airmass in place. Could see a few light drops reach the ground
this afternoon after the atmosphere is better moistened, but
otherwise, no changes to the previous discussion.

Previous discussion...High pressure has moved offshore this
morning whereas most of the area is now under some thickening
cloud cover. Radiational cooling was maximized early with clear
skies and calm winds, thus a rather chilly morning has our temps
in the low to mid 30s, with even some upper 20s.

Today will be similar to the day we had yesterday, albeit there
will be a lot more cloud cover and an increase in moisture. As
moisture advection continues to increase across the area due to
a nearby warm front over N PA and N NJ, our surface dew points
will gradually rise from the 20s into the 30s. Early this afternoon,
there will be some energy associated with a shortwave that
lifts over the SE portion of our area. This may result in a few
rain showers in the afternoon. However, since our atmospheric
column is relatively dry from the previous airmass, it likely
will be difficult for any precipitation to reach the ground
initially. This will mainly be confined to southern Delaware and
the southern Jersey shore, otherwise, the remainder of the area
will remain dry. Afternoon temps will max out in the lower 60s,
under a south wind around 10mph.

The nearby warm front will lift completely north of area late
this afternoon and any lingering showers shall exit with it.
Most of the overnight should remain dry, however, there will be
an increase in the chance of showers late as we await the
advancement of the next cold front on Thursday. The highest
chance of precipitation looks to be from Philadelphia northward
early Thursday morning, with lower chances to the south.
Overnight lows will be noticeably warmer than last night by 5-10
degrees due to thick cloud cover, with lows in the mid to upper
40s.

&&

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
Warm Thursday with some showers, then turning cooler Friday for
most of the area with some additional showers.

As an upper-level trough slides across Quebec and Ontario Canada
Thursday, surface low pressure will be tied with it. An associated
cold front will approach our area from the northwest during the day,
then it settles across our area Thursday night. Stronger southwest
flow ahead of this front along with warm air advection will result
in a warm day Thursday. Widespread 60s are expected, with even some
places in the coastal plain reaching 70 degrees or so. The southerly
wind component off the chilly ocean however will result in cooler
temperatures along the New Jersey coast especially. A mild Thursday
night with showers accompanying the southward advancing cold front.
Some of the guidance hinting at some elevated instability into our
western zones Thursday afternoon and evening, however based on the
model forecast soundings opted to leave out a mention of thunder for
now.

As we go through Friday, the guidance is pushing the cold front
steadily south of our area as high pressure builds across the Great
Lakes and into parts of Quebec and Ontario Canada. This will result
in a more north to eventually northeast wind developing. There is
notable low-level cold air advection forecast with 925 mb
temperatures dropping a decent amount through the day. Given some
showers and lots of clouds plus a north to northeast wind, lowered
the temperatures some. The stronger cold air advection holds off the
longest across parts of our Delmarva zones, therefore the highest
temperatures are forecast there. The main impulse and associated
showers should shift offshore Friday afternoon with perhaps a break
in the precipitation, then an increase in isentropic lift should
generate another round of showers or a period of rain Friday night
especially across about the southern half of the area. The northern
zones look to have the greatest chance for a longer stretch of dry
conditions given surface high pressure to our north pushing some
drier air our way.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Summary...Cooler and unsettled Saturday followed by a brief break
Sunday and milder, then another system arrives early next week with
mostly near average temperatures.

Synoptic Overview...A mid level ridge axis is forecast to be
shifting to our east Saturday as a strong upper-level trough or
closed low lifts into the Great Lakes region. This will take low
pressure with it and a warm front will be working closer to our area
during Saturday. As the Great Lakes low occludes, a weak secondary
low may develop over our area by later Saturday before the cold
front moves through Saturday night. The flow then turns more zonal
Sunday with weak surface high pressure briefly building in by late
day. The pattern quickly reloads with another trough moving across
the Plains Monday into Tuesday, however energy sliding northeastward
will propel low pressure up the Ohio Valley. This system may also
occlude with a secondary low developing near or off the Mid-Atlantic
coast later Monday. The pattern offers some rounds of precipitation,
which is needed given our current stretch of very dry air and also
many spots running a precipitation deficit this year.

For Saturday...As a strong upper-level trough or closed low lifts
across the Great Lakes region, strong surface low pressure goes with
it. A trailing cold front will cross our area Saturday night. A warm
front will attempt to shift northward, however given how far west
the surface low tracks it may have a tough timing getting all that
far north. In addition, a weak low may develop over our area later
in the day as the parent low occludes. There should be some
overrunning rain/showers Saturday morning with the warm air
advection and southwesterly low-level jet, then we await for the
cold front for additional showers by Saturday evening. The showers
will end from west to east overnight Saturday as the cold front
clears our coast. While some instability may develop ahead of the
cold front, the warm front more to our south and onshore low-level
flow occuring may temper this. Given the uncertainty with the
details on this, opted to not include a thunder mention.
Temperatures during the day should be held down some for much of the
area given the surface warm front remaining mainly to our south, and
also showers occurring with clouds dominating.

For Sunday...We get a bit of a break as one trough lifts out and
surface high pressure briefly builds in later in the day and at
night. Given a tightened pressure gradient in place, a west to
northwest wind may be gusty at times before diminishing at night.
The flow aloft is more zonal again for a time and despite some
initial cold air advection, temperatures should top out near 60
degrees in the afternoon especially for the coastal plain. Some
clouds will start to increase at night as we look to our west for
the next system.

For Monday and Tuesday...An upper-level trough across the Plains and
Midwest is forecast to lift east and northeastward. The associated
surface low is forecast to track up the Ohio Valley. As this system
potentially occludes, a new low is forecast to develop near or off
the Mid-Atlantic coast. This system however looks progressive and on
the weaker side. Showers will be on the increase during Monday, then
ending Monday night as the system moves farther away. The timing and
details however with this system is of lower confidence. As strong
high pressure then builds into the Midwest Tuesday, a tightened
pressure gradient setting up across our area will tend to result in
a gusty northwesterly wind.

.AVIATION /18Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE,
KRDG, KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

The rest of today...VFR. S-SW winds of 5-10kts with gusts up to
15kts. A few sprinkles or light rain showers are possible at
KMIV/KACY late this afternoon, but not expecting
ceilings/visibility to fall below VFR. High confidence.

Tonight...VFR through 06Z, with the potential for MVFR thereafter
especially at KTTN/KRDG/KABE as rain showers increase into early
Thursday morning. S-SW winds 5-10 knots. Low confidence with regard
to the potential of MVFR ceilings.

Outlook...

Thursday...Times of MVFR conditions possible, with some showers
around. A heavier shower dropping conditions briefly to IFR
cannot be ruled out. Southwest winds increasing to 10-15 knots
with gusts up to 25 knots, then diminishing at night and
becoming west to west- northwest late. Low confidence.

Friday...MVFR or lower probable with showers. Northwest winds around
10 knots, becoming north to northeast. Low confidence.

Saturday...Sub-VFR with showers, then conditions should start to
improve later at night. Easterly winds around 15 knots with gusts to
around 25 knots, becoming westerly at night and diminishing some.
Low confidence.

Sunday...VFR. West-northwest winds around 15 knots with gusts to
around 25 knots. Moderate confidence.

High pressure has moved offshore this morning with a warm front
lifting north late in the afternoon and into the evening. S-SW winds
of 5-10kts will increase to 10-15kts this afternoon and persist
through tonight. A few localized gusts especially off the coast of
Monmouth County may approach 20kts, but this will diminish by
sunset. Seas of 2-3 feet. Thus, no marine headlines are in
place.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Surface dew points in the upper teens to mid 20s will rise steadily
through the day today into the 30s and further increase tonight into
the mid 40s. Min RH values are expected to be around 30-35 percent
across SE PA, S Jersey and the Delmarva. Winds will only be 10-15mph
out of the south. Some sprinkles or light showers are possible
across S Delaware and along the Jersey shore this afternoon,
however, not expecting any accumulation. As surface dew points
continue to rise, RH values overnight tonight will rise above 80%,
essentially eliminating any fire weather threat for the next few
days.
