.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure remains in control across the Eastern US through
Friday with above normal temperatures. A weak low passes to our
south and east on Saturday, sparking the chance of showers. A cold
front will pass across the area Sunday night, before high pressure
returns on Monday with another cold front passage on Tuesday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
It's been a quiet and mild overnight and early morning period
across the northern mid-Atlantic, even while a west-
southwesterly breeze has lingered through the night. The main
concern today and the next couple of days will continue to be
fire weather conditions; see that respective section below.
Temperatures are running a solid 10 to 20 degrees warmer than
this time Tuesday morning, in part due to high cloudiness and
the aforementioned breeze limiting radiational cooling. A dry
cold front passing southeastward across New England with high
pressure building in it's wake is responsible for west-southwest
breezes staying elevated overnight.
Upper-level ridging over the mid-section of the US will shift
eastward in the wake of the trough passing across the Canadian
Maritimes, with building heights and west to northwesterly warm air
advection today and tonight. While some degree of lower-level
moisture with higher dewpoints will advect into our region today
into tonight, the atmosphere will still remain relatively very dry
and well-mixed. That will support more west to west-northwest
breezes gusting 20 to 25 mph at times this afternoon (possibly
locally higher over the ridgetops toward the Appalachians). Those
winds will ease more substantially tonight through Thursday morning
as surface high pressure builds northward up the Appalachians.
Otherwise, aside from some high clouds this morning associated with
the aforementioned trough, sunshine will quickly return by mid-
morning with skies turning out mostly clear for the bulk of today
and tonight. With 850 temps warming at least a few degrees from
Tuesday, that will help support afternoon temperatures 5 to 8
degrees warmer, cracking the 80-degree mark in much of our region.
The warming atmosphere will result in another similarly mild night
tonight into Thursday morning, despite better radiational cooling
conditions under clearer skies and calmer winds.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
Rex Block persists through Thursday with upper level ridge axis
across the Great Lakes. Pattern does look to break down Thursday
night as upper low begins to lift northeast while becoming an open
trough by Friday night along the Appalachians. At the same time,
surface high pressure shifts off the coast by Thursday morning,
remaining in the vicinity of Bermuda through Friday night where a
weak low approaches from the south associated with upper trough.
Plentiful sunshine is expected during the day Thursday with some
downsloping westerly flow; similar to Wednesday. With these factors
in mind, expect that our area will once again be well mixed during
the afternoon so have opted to forecast on the warmer side of
guidance. With 850mb temps nearing 15C, this should result in most
of the I-95 corridor to reach the mid 80s. Temps in the Poconos will
be limited to the upper 70s, with low to mid 70s along the shore. By
Thursday night, should see more in the way of SW flow returning as
surface high positions itself near Bermuda. Thus, despite clear
skies our lows will have a difficult time falling any lower than the
mid to upper 50s.
Similar conditions are in store for Friday and Friday night, however
an increase in clouds is expected by afternoon as a result of upper
trough approaching. This likely limits our high temps due to less
efficient mixing compared to Thursday; especially across the
Delmarva where temps may actually be a degree or two cooler. Lows
Friday night, will be similar to the night prior and any shower
activity does appear to hold off until the weekend.
There still remains the elevated threat for fire spread through the
remainder of the week. Although dew points will be in the upper 40s
to low 50s, min RH values will be in the 25-35% range. For more in
depth details, refer to the Fire Weather Section below.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
By Saturday, open upper trough will have reached our area,
developing a weak surface low near the VA/NC border. This low will
skirt out to sea, however with enough upper level energy around,
have continued to mention the chance of showers during the afternoon
on Saturday. Also, kept the mention of thunder, but instability does
not look all that great compared to previous guidance. Area should
temporarily dry out Saturday night through the first half of Sunday,
ahead of deepening upper trough swinging through the Great
Lakes. A cold front approaches the area late Sunday night into
early Monday, bringing a more widespread round of showers; with
some mentions of thunder included in the forecast. However, with
the slower progression of the front, this may limit the
potential for thunder despite additional forcing.
After the front passes, high pressure will edge its way back into
the area from the south, keeping the area dry into Tuesday. A
secondary cold front will pass by late on Tuesday. In terms of
temps through the period, expect mid to upper 70s on Saturday,
low to mid 70s on Sunday and mid to upper 60s for Monday and
Tuesday.

.AVIATION /09Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas...
Northwesterly winds aloft around 40 kt at about 2000 ft AGL will
ease after 12Z or so this morning, putting an end to any marginal
LLWS at the TAF sites mainly near to northwest of I-95. Otherwise,
some high clouds will give way to clear skies later this
morning and that will continue with high pressure in control
through the end of the week, with nothing but VFR conditions.
Winds this morning are west-southwest near 10 kt still in some
areas, and will once again gust over 20 kt at times while
tending a bit more west- northwesterly this afternoon. Winds
will ease more substantially tonight.
Outlook...
Thursday...VFR. SW-W winds around 10kts with gusts around 15kts
during the day, becoming around 5kts/less at night. High confidence.
Friday...VFR. SW winds of 5-10kts during the day, becoming S-SW of 5-
10kts at night. High confidence.
Saturday...Sub-VFR conditions possible with a chance of rain and
thunder during the day, becoming VFR at night. SE-S winds of 5-10kts
during the day, becoming E winds around 5kts at night. Low
confidence.
Sunday...Sub-VFR conditions possible with a chance of rain during
the afternoon, becoming more widespread into the evening. E-SE winds
of 10-15kts, will veer and become northwesterly behind frontal
passage. Low confidence with regard to timing of frontal passage at
this time.

.MARINE...
A trough and dry cold front passing by mainly to the northeast of
our region helped keep some gusty southwest to west winds along with
elevated seas in during the overnight, despite relatively quiet
weather with high pressure in control otherwise. However, taking a
look at the buoys and near-coastal observations, it is possible that
conditions over the majority of the earlier Small Craft Advisory
area did not quite meet criteria. Buoy 25 did get to around 5 feet
combined seas during Tuesday evening, though. In any case, we
cancelled that advisory a little earlier, with sub- advisory
conditions set to continue today. While west- southwest winds will
remain steady 10-15 kt through tonight, a lowering east- southeast
swell will help allow combined seas to drop back generally into the
2 to 3-foot range.

Friday...No marine headlines expected. S-SW winds of 10-15kts, with
gusts up to 20kts possible. Seas of 2-3 feet.
Saturday...No marine headlines expected. SE-S winds of 5-10kts,
becoming NE-E of 5-10kts at night. Seas of 2 feet or less.
Sunday...No marine headlines expected. E-SE winds of 10-15kts,
becoming W-NW around 15kts with gusts near 20kts at night. Seas of 2-
3 feet.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Southwest winds will usher a warmer and somewhat more 'moist'
airmass into the region on Wednesday. That does not mean it will not
still be quite dry, from an RH standpoint. High temperatures will be
in the upper 70s to low 80s. Surface dew points will also rise well
into the 40s, though. Actually trimmed those values back a little
bit given where RH ended up on Tuesday, and particularly the MOS and
HRRR suggesting dewpoints will not reach the upper 40s until the
evening. Thus despite the much higher dewpoints than Tuesday, with
temps 5 to 8 degrees higher, MinRH values on Wednesday will range
around 27 to 32 percent. Winds will be around 15 mph with 20 to 25
mph gusts. A Fire Weather Watch remains in effect for the eastern
shores of Maryland and eastern Pennsylvania. Winds and RH may only
exceed Red Flag Warning criteria for a few hours this afternoon,
while 10-hour fuel moisture is rumored to be somewhat marginal near
10% as well. We held off on an upgrade, but the next shift may need
to consider that after coordination with state forest fire agencies.
We did already issue a 'Fire Weather SPS' for NJ and DE. Expect at
least an SPS will be issued for elevated fire weather conditons for
our entire area. In any case, all of this is semantics to a certain
degree; we had several wildfires in the area on Tuesday, including a
rather large one near Lakehurst, NJ that continues to burn over 2500
acres. While RH will be a little higher than Tuesday, conditions
will still be conducive to wildfire starts and potentially rapid
spread.
Conditions for Thursday and Friday are somewhat similar to
Wednesday, though with slightly lighter winds. As both temperatures
and dew points rise into the low 80s and upper 40s/low 50s
respectively, forecast min RHs remain steady around 25 to 35 percent
for much of the region. A Special Weather Statement for continued
elevated fire weather conditions looks likely for both days, though
with the lighter winds, conditions may not quite support a Fire
Weather Watch or Red Flag Warning. Aside from greenup occurring,
fine fuels will likely continue dry out, though.
