.SYNOPSIS...
A warm front arrives today with a cold front crossing the area
on Tuesday. High pressure then builds in Wednesday into
Thursday. The next cold front is scheduled to move through later
Friday with high pressure arriving for Saturday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
The surface warm front is located in a line from Reading to
Trenton as of 12:45 p.m., with temperatures and dew points
continuing to rise as this front moves northward. A sea breeze
will work inland early this afternoon as depicted by the latest
hi res guidance which also develop a few showers along it,
especially across Delaware, so introduced some slight chance
PoPs across this area for early this afternoon. Otherwise, no
significant changes needed for the early afternoon update as
the forecast remains on track...

Quiet conditions continue with a weak surface high still in
control before conditions deteriorate throughout the mid to late
afternoon hours and tonight. Current thinking is that a good
portion of the day across our area should stay precip free under
variable cloud cover, at least through mid afternoon. Expect
highs mainly in the 85 to 90 range.

Meanwhile, a fairly potent upper level trough across the
Midwestern states will continue to trek across the Ohio River
Valley during the day and advancing a strengthening surface low
along with it. Ahead of the main low, a warm front will slowly
lift northward, reaching our region by mid to late afternoon,
bringing with it increasing clouds in the afternoon and
eventually heavy rain and thunderstorms at night. Roughly after
21Z (5pm EDT), forecast models indicate an approaching area of
showers and storms moving eastward from western MD and Virginia
into our Delmarva Counties by early evening as these moves
eastward in the vicinity of the warm front driven by an
convectively enhanced wave aloft. By 00Z, this warm front will
have begun to gradually lift northward, reaching southern NJ and
southeast PA as heavy showers and thunderstorms continue to
develop along it. Over the next several hours through the
evening and into the overnight period, heavy showers and
thunderstorms are expected to become more numerous along the
frontal boundary as the LLJ ramps up, and funnels in abundant
moisture into the region. Guidance continues to show a very
saturated atmosphere, with PWAT values of 2.0 to 2.4 inches,
which is uncharacteristically high for the Mid Atlantic! The
very tricky part is there is quite a bit of uncertainty of
exactly how quickly this front will move and how far north it
will end up and, therefore, who will see the heaviest amount of
rain and greatest risk for both flash flooding and severe
thunderstorms.

In regards to the flooding threat...WPC has placed our entire
region under a Slight Risk for excessive rainfall. With very
high PWAT values and a slow-moving frontal boundary, this is a
recipe for flash flooding concerns. Compounded with the
uncertainty of how this warm front will evolve throughout the
night, it is difficult to determine exactly who is at greatest
risk here. At the moment, we are forecasting a widespread 1-2
inches of rainfall, but we will easily see locally heavier
amounts where thunderstorms set up and train.

In regards to the severe threat...SPC has placed southeast PA,
southern NJ, and the Delmarva under a Slight Risk for severe
weather with a Marginal Risk for all northern locations. Hi res
guidance continues to show widespread deep layer shear values of
30 to 50 knots across the region with veering hodographs.
Additionally, MLCAPE values are expected to be around 1000-2000
J/kg immediately behind the warm front. Damaging wind gusts will
be possible with thunderstorms along and south of the warm
front in addition to the possibility for a tornado or two.

The storms should eventually move out overnight tonight as the
warm front lifts north of the area as low pressure moves north
and east towards Lake Erie by 12z Tuesday. This will put the
area in the system's warm sector leading to a very warm and
muggy night for most. Lows near and S/E of the urban corridor
likely won't get below the low to mid 70s with many locations
across the southern half warming up a few degrees overnight due
to the advancement of the warm front.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
Tuesday starts out relatively quiet as we will be south of the
warm front but well ahead of the cold front, which will be out
near the PA/OH border early Tuesday. Southerly flow should allow
substantial warming with temps warming into the mid-upper 80s,
with dew points well into the 70s...a steamy day, to be sure.
Cold front moves towards us during the afternoon, and latest
guidance continues to grow more confident about it igniting a
line of strong thunderstorms near the I-95 corridor during the
afternoon, which will then continue eastward as we head into the
evening. Locally heavy rain and gusty winds, possibly severe,
will be a concern, though coverage uncertainty has limited the
slight risk to areas south of Philadelphia.

Front moves through in the evening and sweeps away the
convection with it. Behind it, dew points drop into the low-mid
60s, allowing low temperatures to generally do likewise. Cooler
and drier air mass will result in highs several degrees lower on
Wednesday. While a few models try to generate a few showers as
the lingering low-level moisture tries to bubble up under upper
trough which will linger overhead, right now think this is
overdone and we end up dry.

Wednesday night looks similar to late Tuesday night, with temps
ending up in the 60s under mostly clear to partly cloudy skies.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Fairly quiet pattern through the long term, a notable change
from recent weeks. High pressure will remain for Thursday, with
a bit of warming as winds shift southerly on its back side while
the center shifts offshore. By Friday, the next upper trough and
surface cold front moves through, but right now it remains low
confidence as to whether this front produces much precipitation,
as best forcing stays north and moisture stays south. Could end
up being a mostly dry front. Saturday, high pressure from Canada
will dominate once again, with slightly below normal temps and
fairly dry air (dew points dropping into the 50s). This doesn't
last too long as by Sunday, the building upper ridge to our west
and the high shifting offshore at the surface allows warmer air
to build across the region, with highs returning to near 90.
However, looks like dew points will take a little longer to
bounce back, with readings likely staying comfortably in the
60s at least for Sunday.

.AVIATION /18Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Rest of today (12Z-00Z)...VFR through the day with lowering
cloud bases. Chances for showers increase late in the day, but
not arriving until the 22-23z hour. Variable winds through most
of the morning will go south/southwesterly and gradually back
into the afternoon to southeasterly. Wind speeds around 5-10
kt. Moderate confidence.

Tonight...Sub-VFR conditions likely with scattered showers and
thunderstorms. Have added a VCTS group after 02Z for all
terminals as some of the short range guidance has honed in on
that period to see thunderstorms. Would expect similar timing
for all other terminals plus or minus an hour. Showers and
MVFR/IFR conditions likely in the wake of heavy
rain/thunderstorms. Winds out of the south/southeast around 5-10
kt. Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Tuesday...Some improvement to VFR expected by midday as warm
front lifts north, but scattered to numerous TSRA will drop
conditions below VFR at times in the afternoon, especially
southeast of I-95 corridor terminals. Winds WSW around 10 kts.
Moderate confidence.

Wednesday...VFR. Winds NW 5-10 kts. High confidence.

Thursday...VFR. Winds SW 5-10 kts. High confidence.

Friday...Mostly VFR, though small chance of sub-VFR in any
isolated showers. Winds W 10-15 kts. Moderate confidence.

Expect conditions to remain below Small Craft Advisory levels
through tonight, however there will be showers and
thunderstorms moving over the waters this evening into the
overnight and these could result in locally strong wind gusts to
40+ knots and higher seas.

Outlook...

Tuesday will see some gusts up to 20 kts from the SW as a cold
front approaches, with seas possibly building to 4 ft, but
remaining below SCA levels. Main concern will be potential for
gusty thunderstorms in the afternoon/evening.

Wednesday will feature W winds 5-10 kts and seas 2-3 ft. By
Thursday, winds shift to S at similar speeds with seas 2-3 ft.
Winds become W 10-15 kts Friday with seas building to 3-4 ft.
However, by Friday they drop back to 5-10 kts with seas
diminishing to 2-3 ft.

Rip currents...

Today, a light onshore flow will develop, though winds will
only be around 5-10 MPH. With a medium period southeast swell
and breaking waves around 2 to 3 feet, there will be a LOW risk
for the development of dangerous rip currents at the Jersey
Shore and Delaware beaches.

For Tuesday, winds turn offshore with southwest winds around
10-15 MPH. A medium period southerly swell, with breaking waves
around 2 to 3 feet, will result in a LOW risk for the
