Forecast package remains on track with little changes for the
evening and overnight period. Snow showers will continue to wind
down this evening and overnight. Most areas will see a dusting at
most of additional accumulation where the snow showers continue
through approximately 6Z. The mountains zones of the Sierra Madre
and Snowy Ranges are likely to see the higher snowfall
accumulation totals through Saturday morning. Bumped up the
overnight lows by 1-2 degrees due to anticipated cloud cover
across the cwa, but overall temperatures will remain in the teens
to 20s for overnight lows.

Snowfall continues across much of southeast WY this afternoon
with a few areas east of the Laramie Range observing both rain
and snow. Farther west, snowfall continues across much of Albany
and Carbon Counties in WY with multiple SNOTELs in the Sierra
Madres reporting 0.4-0.7 inches SWE since midnight. Highest
amounts have been reported on the western slopes with moderate
snowfall extending into southwest Carbon Co near Dixon and Baggs.
Mid-level flow has begun to shift more west and northwesterly this
afternoon bringing better orographic forcing to northern slopes
of the Sierra Madres as well as the Snowys which have begun to see
more SWE accumulation over the past few hours based on area
SNOTELs. Winter Weather Advisories will continue for the mountains
through tonight with 2 to 3 inches of additional snow
accumulation expected. On additional hazard to monitor tonight
will be the possibility of fog, mainly for portions of the NE
Panhandle where forecast soundings hint a gradual increase in
low-level moisture through early Saturday morning.

Skies will be clearing throughout the day Saturday with
temperatures approaching 40 degrees east of I-25 while areas
farther west will remain in the 30s. The first of multiple quick
moving shortwaves will approach from the west Saturday night
tightening gradients and increasing flow aloft. In-house guidance
continues to show multiple periods of potential high winds this
weekend into early next week as these gradients remain elevated.
Previous shift issued a High Wind Watch for the wind-prone
locations across southeast WY starting Saturday evening running
through Sunday. Only changes that were made was to extend the
watch for the Arlington and Elk Mountain areas along I-80 through
Tuesday with the successive shortwaves creating multiple periods
of possible high winds. For further details, see the Long-Term
discussion below.

.LONG TERM...(Monday through Friday)

Overview: Main weather hazard we are tracking in the long term
freakiest period will be an extended window of elevated to strong
winds to impact the Arlington wind prone area with smaller windows
of high winds possible across the Bordeaux and the I-80 summit
areas. After analyzing both in-house model guidance and model
members and ensembles the High Wind Watch for the Arlington wind
prone was extended through Tuesday night. There could be periods
below high winds during the event but models and in-house models
are in agreement of showing a few periods where winds could exceed
high wind criteria. A High Wind Warning may be needed for the
Arlington wind prone area if those windows of high winds remain
consistent or become extended.

Outside the high wind threat the other weather feature we are
tracking is for a potential storm system that may bring some more
widespread precipitation chances to parts of SE Wyoming and the
southern Nebraska Panhandle, but overall forecast confidence with
this system is low, as long range models vary wildly in handling this
potential longwave trough.

Discussion: Adjustments regarding the wind forecast forecast were
made with this forecast package. The most noticeable change was to
adjust winds across the wind prone areas and extend the duration of
timing of the winds across both wind prone areas and the I-80
summit. The 850mb CAG-CPR gradients increase above 50m late Sunday
night and remain above 50m through Tuesday. In that window there are
periods where the CAG-CPR gradient climbs into the 67-72m range. The
most aggressive model (GFS) has 700mb winds climbing above 40kts
late Sunday and holding around 45kts with periods of 50-55kts
occurring, with the EC not too far off from these wind speeds.

What is driving the more potent wind speeds is a stronger
shortwave moving north of the region immediately on the heels of the
Sunday shortwave. The highest confidence for the wind prone areas to
see high winds looks to be Monday morning. There is a 6hr window
where both the 850 and 700mb CAG-CPR gradients climb above 60 and
50m respectively. GFS is again the most aggressive with the 700mb
winds but the ECMWF is not too far off. The GFS has a large swath of
+55kt 700mb winds across much of SE Wyoming. Outside of these two
wind periods, the next weather maker in form of a fast moving,
evolving long wave trough may be what brings more widespread chances
back into the forecast. Models aren't in agreement with both
solutions fairly unimpressive with the feature, meaning that
significant snow accumulation or impacts are low at this time.

Snow shower activity has waned but low CIG/fog impacts will be
possible through the morning. Expect fluctuating flight conditions
at several terminals. Fog and low CIGs are waffling in and out of
Nebraska panhandle terminals this evening. Light westerly winds
are keeping the fog at bay at KCDR and KAIA for now, but if these
weaken it could come back in. Can't rule out fog moving into KSNY,
and period low CIGs are possible at KBFF. Hires models continue to
bring MVFR/IFR CIGs into KLAR, but this will depend on the light
easterlies weakening, so lower confidence in this.

Flight conditions should improve by mid morning with VFR expected
Saturday afternoon.

cold air and existing snow pack in place for most areas. Some snow
expected today mainly across southeast Wyoming ...mainly along

Significant snow accumulations are not expected outside of the
Snowy and Sierra Madre Ranges. Start to see winds increasing
