.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure aloft will result in above normal temperatures and dry
conditions today. A weather system will move through the region
Sunday and Monday bringing cooler temperatures, very breezy to
windy conditions, and a slight chance of precipitation. A gradual
warming trend is expected, especially by the middle and latter
half of next week. Forecast highs of 90 degrees enter the forecast
for many areas by next Friday.

.DISCUSSION...
Following another day in the 80s today, things will cool down and
become very breezy to windy as a cold and dynamic trough moves
through. Currently seen on water vapor satellite, the positively
tilted trough is moving into the northwest CONUS with the base of
the trough and vort max pushing into central CA. While the current
trajectory looks like the trough may just miss to the north of the
warning area, upstream amplification of the Pacific ridge and
strong 250mb jet rounding the top of the ridge will help dig the
trough through the warning area tomorrow. The trough is expected
to remain a progressive open wave through the area through Sunday
before closing off over NM on Monday.

Colder air will arrive through Sunday morning as a surface cold
front sweeps east across the area. Highs Sunday are expected to be
on average 10 degrees cooler than today across the area, with
forecast highs from the NBM mostly in the 70s at lower elevations.
While the cold dynamic trough will present a slight chance for
precipitation, any showers will be quick-moving with the fast-
moving progressive trough. So, QPF will be very light. NBM
probabilities of >0.01" are only upwards of 10-20% and >0.1" is
near 0%. The best moisture is forecast with the front Sunday
morning and PoPs have ticked up ever so slightly in South-central
AZ (~10%) tomorrow morning. Could not rule out a few light echoes.
With the timing of the main trough axis swinging through AZ in
in the afternoon, this will at least support convective potential
and even a low-end (5-10%) thunderstorm chance. Hi-res models
support up to a couple hundred J/kg of CAPE, however forecast
soundings only support convective tops up to 15-20 kft with bases
around 7-9 kft. Strong thunderstorms are not anticipated, but
inverted-V profiles in the afternoon will support the potential
for some strong wind gusts, in excess of 35 mph, with any shower.

The biggest focus with this trough, and follow-on embedded
shortwaves, will be the winds. Very breezy to windy conditions are
anticipated over the next few days, beginning later this evening
with strong sundowner winds and post-frontal winds in southeast CA
and parts of southwest AZ. With the strongest winds developing
above the surface after sundown (40-45 mph in the 925-850mb layer),
mixing will be more limited. However, very breezy to locally
windy surface conditions are still expected which could generate
localized blowing dust channels. A Wind Advisory and Blowing Dust
Advisory are in effect tonight. The westerly gradient wind weakens
Sunday morning before another stronger gradient develops Sunday
night and this one out of the north. HREF and model soundings are
supporting a 50-60 mph northerly jet developing Sunday night along
the Lower Colorado River Valley and Southwest AZ. Again the
forecast challenge will be the timing, being overnight, and how
much wind will be able to mix to the desert surface. HREF mean is
mostly highlighting the peaks and ridges, like the Kofas, with
gusts up to 50-60 mph while the desert floors remain lighter and
sub-advisory. Still it is hard to ignore this strong of a jet and
at least a Wind Advisory will likely be needed within the next
couple forecast packages.

Breezy conditions are likely across most of the area through the
middle of next week was the low to the east deepens and enlarges,
with a few embedded shortwaves kicking around the backside/western
flank. Temperatures will gradually rebound and increase through
next week. The first 90s are in sight for South-Central AZ by the
end of next week with 50-60% chances in Phoenix by Friday and 80%
heading into the following weekend.

.AVIATION...Updated at 0535Z.

South-Central Arizona including KPHX, KIWA, KSDL, and KDVT:

Mid and high clouds, mainly aoa 15-20 kft, hang around through
Sunday morning, with 6-9 kft based cumulus developing Sunday
afternoon. East to southeast surface winds between 07-10 kts
expected overnight. A cold front is expected to pass through the
area early Sunday morning. Right before the frontal passage, a few
hours of southerly winds of up to 10 kts expected between 15-17z,
creating a crosswind at PHX. Winds then become westerly between
16-18z and increasing to between 12-15 kts and lasting through
the afternoon and early evening hours. There is a slight chance
(<20%) of a few SHRA Sunday afternoon and early evening, with
a better chance north and east of the terminals.

Southeast California/Southwest Arizona including KIPL and KBLH:

Across KIPL, west winds of 20-25 kts with gusts of up to 30 kts
will be common through Sunday morning, becoming northwesterly with
lower speeds Sunday afternoon. Across KBLH, westerly winds of up
to 20 kts can be expected through Sunday morning, becoming
northwesterly Sunday afternoon with speeds increasing to 20-25 kts
and gusts of up to 30-35 kts. Areas of blowing dust will be
possible during the periods of the strongest wind gusts, reducing
visibilities to MVFR conditions. Passing mid to high level
cloudiness aoa 15-20 kts will continue through the first part of
the overnight, with clearing skies expected afterwards.

Temps cool closer to seasonal normals Monday but will warm quickly
thereafter. The upper 80s and low 90s are likely by the end of the
week. A mostly dry weather system will continue to bring strong
breezes to many areas through Monday. Wind gusts of 25-35 mph will
be common in SE CA and SW AZ, and 15-25 mph elsewhere, and areas
with even stronger gusts possible. With min RH near 7-12%,
elevated fire weather conditions are forecast for SE CA and SW AZ
for Monday. Lingering breeziness through the week cannot be ruled
out either. A few showers are possible early Monday, more so for
the higher terrain of Gila County, but totals above 0.10" will be
very rare. RH mins will remain in the single digits through
Friday, and overnight recoveries will struggle to exceed 30%.
