At 436 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
New Morgan, or 12 miles east of New Holland, moving east at 20 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
possible.

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will move across the region tonight and into
Wednesday. Following this front, a secondary cold front will
move through the region Thursday night. High pressure will lead
to pleasant weather through the weekend. Another frontal system
may impact the region into early next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM WEDNESDAY MORNING/...
The cold front continues to slowly progress eastward this afternoon,
and will eventually make its way into our area later this afternoon
and this evening. Hot and humid conditions remain ahead of the
front, so the advisories and warnings remain where they were updated
earlier this morning.
With the heat and humidity, very unstable air remains in place, with
CAPE values 2000-3000 J/kg. However, the winds aloft and the shear
profiles are not overly impressive, with shear only 10-20 knots.
Widespread severe weather is not expected, but with this much
instability, a few strong storms will be possible.
Possibly more of a concern will be the potential for heavy rainfall.
PW values remain over 2 inches, so any showers/thunderstorms will be
quite efficient rain producers. As long as the storms move along
with the front, there shouldn't be much concern. But if any storms
begin to train or backbuild, some localized flooding could be
possible.
The showers and thunderstorms will begin to dissipate and weaken
through the evening and especially after midnight. As the front
stalls across the southern portions of the area, there could be some
patchy fog develop for the most humid and stable areas, but
widespread fog is not expected.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH 6 PM WEDNESDAY/...
The cold front will be stalled out across the area on Wednesday, and
much of the day will likely end up being dry for much of the area.
North of the front, less hot and drier conditions are expected with
dewpoints in the low to mid 60s, while along and south of the front,
warmer and more humid conditions are expected with dewpoints in the
upper 60s to lower 70s. Even with the warmer and humid conditions,
heat index values will end up being below advisory criteria. Also,
even though instability will build with the heat and humidity during
the day, there are no strong short wave/vorticity impulses to help
spark off any showers or thunderstorms until very late in the day.
Once showers and storms do develop, with PW values over 2-2.5
inches, heavy rainfall could become a concern. Wind shear is not
overly impressive, so widespread severe weather is not currently
anticipated, but it would not be surprising to see some strong
storms with locally gusty winds.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A secondary cold front will move through the region Thursday
night as a weak wave of low pressure rides along the first
front to our south just off the coast. Additional showers and
thunderstorms will be possible Thursday through the early
afternoon along the first front then additional showers and
possible thunderstorms will move into the region from the
northwest into the afternoon along the secondary and stronger
cold front. While surface forcing will be stronger with this
front, instability will be limited mostly south of the first
front, so severe weather is not expected, though a few
thunderstorms cannot be entirely ruled out. Highs will fall to
more seasonable readings in the mid to upper 80s.
An upper-level trough will dig across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic
Friday and into the early weekend, with surface high pressure
building into the region. This will bring a much drier airmass into
the region from central Canada, which will result in much more
comfortable dew points in the low to mid 50s. This will lead to a
period of pleasant weather through the weekend, especially in
comparison to the heat and humidity we have dealt with over the past
week. Highs Friday through Sunday will favor the low to mid 80s by
Sunday with heat indices only in the low 80s.
By early next week, another shortwave trough looks to dig through
the Great Lakes. At the surface, the high pressure center will shift
off to our north and east, and a new area of low pressure looks to
form along the remnant frontal boundary to our south offshore.
Another frontal system will work towards our region from the Great
Lakes in association with this shortwave trough. Similar highs are
expected in the low to mid 80s Monday and Tuesday.

.AVIATION /20Z TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Rest of Today...Generally VFR. There is a chance of showers and
thunderstorms this afternoon, which may temporarily lead to lower
conditions, especially for KRDG and KABE. Southwest to west wind
around 10 knots with gusts 15 to 20 knots. Medium to high confidence.
Tonight...A chance of showers and thunderstorms this evening for all
TAF sites, which may temporarily lead to lower conditions.
Otherwise, mainly VFR for much of the night. However, MVFR ceilings
are possible for ACY and MIV overnight through daybreak Wednesday.
Southwest to west wind 5 to 10 knots, becoming northerly 5 knots or
less overnight. Medium confidence.
Wednesday...MVFR ceilings possible for ACY and MIV in the morning
hours, otherwise, generally VFR. Showers and thunderstorms are
possible late in the afternoon and evening which may temporarily
lead to lower conditions. North to northeast winds during the
morning, shift to the west or southwest by the afternoon, the
variable winds overnight. Low confidence with the details.
Outlook...
Thursday...Lingering showers and thunderstorms in the morning and
early afternoon may lead to sub-VFR conditions. Westerly winds
turning northwesterly from 5 to 10 knots. Moderate confidence.
Friday...VFR. Northwesterly winds from 5 to 10 knots with gusts from
15 to 20 knots at times during the afternoon. High confidence.
Saturday...VFR. Winds from the north-northwest from 5 to 10 knots
turning light and variable overnight. High confidence.
Sunday...VFR. Southwesterly winds from 5 to 10 knots. Moderate
confidence.

.MARINE...
Although winds and waves expected to remain below advisory level
conditions, winds will gust around 20 knots at times. Higher winds
and waves will be possible near thunderstorms.
Outlook...
Thursday through Saturday...The conditions are anticipated to
be below Small Craft Advisory criteria.
Rip currents...
Generally sub-Small Craft Advisory conditions are expected through
the weekend, though northwesterly winds may gust above 20 knots
Friday and Saturday afternoon. Waves generally from 2 to 3 feet.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
The full moon occurs on Thursday evening. The evening high
tides on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be particularly
high even without any contribution from the wind. As a result,
some localized tidal flooding is possible each evening in the
coastal counties of New Jersey and Delaware, and along Delaware
Bay.
