.SYNOPSIS...
As high pressure remains centered well offshore, a weak surface
trough will remain across or near our region today right into
Monday. A cold front is forecast to settle across our area
Tuesday night and Wednesday, followed by a secondary cold front
arriving late Thursday into Friday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
No major changes to the forecast early this afternoon with
showers and thunderstorms beginning to form to our north and
south in both Sussex Counties New Jersey and Delaware. The low
clouds from this morning are eroding, giving way to new cumulus
as surface begin to reach their convective temperatures.
Adjusted highs down a degree or so over some areas thanks to the
thicker cloud cover this morning, but humidity remains on the
high side, which will lead to another sultry summer day,
especially in areas under a Heat Advisory, which no changes
have been made to.
The remnant boundaries left from Friday's convection should be
the focus for shower and thunderstorm development this afternoon
in our our region. It appears as though the better chances for
rain are along and to the northwest of the Interstate 95
Corridor. Precipitable water values will remain in the 2 to 2
1/4 inch range, so local downpours area again possible.
The convection is anticipated to slowly dissipate this evening
with the loss of daytime heating, leaving a partly cloudy sky
for late tonight.
Regarding the heat, high temperatures should be around 90 today
in much of our region. Heat index values are forecast to
approach 100 in the area covered by the Heat Advisory. Tonight's
lows are expected to favor the 70s.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
High pressure remains anchored in the western Atlantic Ocean
with the westerlies still to our north. A surface trough is
forecast to remain draped across our area during this time
frame. The surface trough along with any leftover boundaries
including sea breezes will be the primary driver for convective
development, primarily each afternoon and evening. Given the
weak flow up through the atmospheric column, any convection will
be slow moving and pulse type with locally gusty winds and
heavy rain the main threats. The coverage does not appear to be
widespread overall, although some organization can occur due to
any colliding outflows, backbuilding and/or cold pool
developments.
It will remain hot and humid Sunday through Monday with high
temperatures for many areas reaching into the low to mid 90s
(Monday may be a bit hotter than Sunday). Low temperatures drop
back into the 70s, with only near 80 in the I-95 urban centers.
This will place peak heat indices in the 100-105 degree range
for especially much of the I-95 corridor south and eastward. As
a result, additional Heat Advisories is probable through Monday.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Summary...A break from the excessive heat and humidity should
arrive Wednesday or Thursday, although at least some chances for
showers and thunderstorms remain with more notable drying
possible Thursday and especially Friday.
Synoptic Overview...As an upper-level trough moves into the
Pacific Northwest around Wednesday, a ridge moves more into the
Plains which results in an upper-level trough becoming more
entrenched across the East. This will allow for relief from the
excessive heat and humidity as at least a couple of cold fronts
move through our region during the second half of the week. The
amplification of the upper- level trough though will determine
how far offshore the cold fronts get.
For Tuesday and Wednesday...As an upper-level trough slides
across central to eastern Canada during this time frame, it is
forecast to amplify across the Great Lakes and eventually into
the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. This will drive a cold front
slowly southeastward and there could be a couple ripples of low
pressure riding along it. A pesky surface trough should still be
in place across our region especially Tuesday, and this will
likely be the main focus for some convective development. Some
uptick in convective organization may occur with time as the
cold front settles across our area into Wednesday with weak low
pressure or two working their way along it. Given the arrival of
the upper-level trough, the flow aloft will start to strengthen
some with time. Instability will favor especially afternoon and
evening convection, and the Tuesday convection should initially
develop along the weak surface trough and terrain circulations.
The intensity of the convection could be hindered due to the
main trough (cooler air aloft) hanging back and thus the
stronger flow does as well. As a result, the shear is forecast
to be on the weak side. It will be another humid and hot day
Tuesday with many areas getting into the 90s once again. Heat
indices are forecast to be around 100 degrees Tuesday afternoon
from about the I-95 corridor south and eastward, and additional
Heat Advisories are probable. It will remain humid Wednesday,
however with the arrival of the cold front and associated
cloudiness and some convection the temperatures are forecast to
be held down some.
For Thursday and Friday...An upper-level trough is forecast to
be more entrenched across the East. This should help push the
cold front south and east of our area along with drier air
moving in especially for Friday. Given the trough aloft, cannot
rule out some lingering convective chances especially Thursday.
The details will depend on the movement of the cold fronts and
strength of the upper- level trough. At least there is expected
to be some relief from the multi-day hot and rather humid
conditions as temperatures and dew points trend downward during
this time frame.

.AVIATION /17Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Today...Mainly VFR with scattered low to mid-level clouds.
There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms through the
afternoon. South to southwest wind increasing to around 10 knots
with gusts of 15 to 20 knots. Medium confidence.
Tonight...Mainly VFR. A chance of evening showers and
thunderstorms. Local MVFR/IFR visibility restrictions are
possible after 06Z. South to southwest wind 6 knots or less.
Medium confidence.
Outlook...
Sunday and Monday...Some mainly afternoon and evening showers
and thunderstorms will result in locally sub-VFR conditions at
times, otherwise VFR. Southwesterly winds 5-15 knots. Low
confidence regarding the details of the showers and
thunderstorms.
Tuesday and Wednesday...Mainly VFR, with the exception of some
mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.
Southwest winds around 10 knots Tuesday, becoming west or west-
southwest 5-10 knots Wednesday. Low confidence.

High pressure located over the western North Atlantic will
maintain a southerly wind on the coastal waters of Delaware and
New Jersey through tonight. Wind speeds are expected to favor
the 10 to 15 knot range. Wave heights should be 2 to 3 feet on
our ocean waters and 2 feet or less on Delaware Bay.
Outlook...
Sunday through Wednesday...The conditions are anticipated to be
below Small Craft Advisory criteria.
Rip currents...
A south wind around 10 to 15 MPH is expected for both today and
Sunday. Breaking waves are forecast to be 1 to 2 feet with a
medium period south to southeast swell. There is a LOW risk for
rip currents both days along the coasts of Delaware and New
Jersey.
