.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front passed through the area and was moving off the
coast this morning. High pressure will eventually build in
behind it by late today and persist through Thanksgiving Day.
Low pressure approaching from the west and southwest is
anticipated to pass through our region on Friday and then move
off into eastern Canada by Saturday as it continues to deepen.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
A cold front crossed the area early this morning. Dry and cold
air will spill across the area on a gusty W to NW wind. Skies
will be mostly sunny. Highs will only reach the low/mid 30s for
most areas. The wind chills will only be in the teens and 20s
however. Record lowest-max temps are possible. See the climate
section below.
Tonight, high pressure well to the SW of the area ridges up
across our area. Skies will be clear and winds will be light.
Lows will be very cold with teens for the N/W areas and low 20s
elsewhere. Record low at ABE is 17, so it could be a new record
low there. The other records are 2 to 4 degrees below present
fcst, so close.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
The weather will be overall quiet this period as high pressure
dominates and the upper level trough over the east starts to
flatten out a bit. This will also mean temperatures moderate.
For Monday, a clipper type system will move quickly eastward
well to our north passing from Ontario into Quebec. This will
push a warm front through to our north bringing us breezy SW
winds under mainly sunny skies. This will help it warm up
compared to Sunday but highs will still only be mainly in the
40s (still below average) with 30s for the southern Poconos.
Also expect the SW winds to be gusting upwards of 20 to 25 mph
at times during the afternoon.
The low pressure system described above continues racing off
into the Canadian Maritimes Monday night through Tuesday with
high pressure building in over the mid Atlantic and northeast in
its wake. This will keep skies mainly clear with Tuesday
featuring lighter winds and temperatures a few degrees warmer
than Monday. Little change will follow for Tuesday night with
the high starting to weaken slightly but still maintaining its
grip over the area. This will bring continuing mainly clear
skies, light winds and lows mainly in the 20s to low 30s.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
An upper level trough will begin to move into the Central US on
Wednesday due to an amplified ridge building across the Western
US. Downstream, this will result in a brief ridge to build
overhead as surface high pressure will generally remain in place
into Thursday. This will allow a return of seasonal
temperatures for the majority of the area with highs in the
lower to mid 50s. At this time, the Thanksgiving Holiday does
appear to be dry, with sunshine giving way to increasing
cloudiness during the afternoon.
Following the holiday, our attention then turns to the late
week storm potential. The deterministic GEM and EC continue to
indicate a deepening upper level trough as it moves from the
central CONUS into the east help driving the development of a
double Barrelled surface low (one low centered north of the
Great Lakes with a secondary one developing near southeast coast
of the CONUS). Both of these models then show the secondary low
taking over while moving northward near or off the coast and
rapidly deepening. This would bring rain, potentially heavy, to
the area for Friday as high pressure retreats to the east.
Meanwhile, the GFS is much weaker / less amplified with the
upper trough as it moves east as it fractures off some of the
energy and leaves it behind as an upper low that forms near
Texas. This solution would result in a much weaker low racing by
well to our north (and no secondary development along the
coast) bringing little if any precip. Worth noting though is
that not only is the deterministic GFS outnumbered 2:1 here, but
many of its own ensemble members support a solution more like
the GEM and EC. For this reason, went with the NBM's likely POPs
across the area for Friday as it looking now like this will be
a rainy day. Still think there could be a wintry mix at the
onset late Thursday night or early Friday over the southern
Poconos but this probably won't last too long since the high
will be quickly retreating to the east allowing winds to go S/SE
The good news is that Friday's system will be progressive and
will depart to the northeast into Saturday leaving behind drier
but blustery and cooler conditions (highs Friday mostly in the
50s followed by 40s to low 50s for Saturday).
