What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this small craft advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Philadelphia/Mount Holly wrote its last area forecast discussion before this small craft advisory went out at Jul 11, 1:02 AM EDT, 2 hours 39 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Jul 11, 1:02 AM EDT, 2 hours 39 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ
102 AM EDT Mon Jul 11 2022

.SYNOPSIS...
Weak high pressure over our area will gradually shift to our
east through Monday. A cold front will approach the area later
Tuesday, and with heat and humidity building just ahead of the
front, showers and thunderstorms are expected as the front
passes. While high pressure will then attempt to build
southward, the front may stall out just offshore, keeping things
unsettled through the end of the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
As of 1:00 AM, no significant changes were made either. Cirrus
have pushes well offshore and clear skies will allow for decent
radiational cooling with our relatively dry airmass. Just
touched up the hourly temperature, dew point, sky and wind grids
based on the latest observations and trends. Morning lows
drop into the upper 50s north and in the Pine Barrens to around
60s elsewhere.

Otherwise, weak surface high pressure over our region will gradually
shift eastward through Monday. The core of the air mass is forecast
to move off the coast tonight, leaving a trailing ridge axis into
the Middle Atlantic states for Monday. Dry weather will continue
through the period. A mid level trough is expected to pass off the
Middle Atlantic and Carolina Coasts tonight. We are anticipating a
mostly sunny sky for Monday with just some cumulus development.

The wind will become light and variable to locally calm tonight and
there may be patchy ground fog in some outlying areas toward
morning. Low temperatures should favor the upper 50s and lower 60s
in our region. Highs on Monday are forecast to be mainly in the 80s.
Humidity levels are expected to remain low on Monday with dew point
readings staying generally in the 55-60 degree range.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Monday night...High pressure offshore will remain close enough
to keep the weather dry across the area Monday night. A SW flow
will develop overnight though and low level moisture will
increase over the area overnight. The dew points that were in
the 50s Monday will be replaced by readings in the upper 60s/low
70s by Tue afternoon. Much of that change will take place
overnight Mon. Lows Mon night mostly in the 60s with some upper
50s for the high peaks of the southern Poconos.

Tuesday/Tuesday night...Looks like one of the more
uncomfortable days of the week with well above normal
temperatures and sticky humidity levels. Low pressure associated
with the H5 trough over the Great Lakes will be moving across
southern Ontario Tue and the attached front will be crossing
NY/PA. A strengthening SW flow will pump in the humidity thru
the day. As the front arrives thunderstorms will break out along
the front and (as sometimes is the case) ahead of it too. Pops
rise to the chc/likely levels thru the day and continue into the
overnight period. SPC has the NW areas Tuesday in a Slight Risk
for severe thunderstorms with a Marginal Risk farther south and
east. This looks good with the better winds and frontal convergence
closer to the Slight Risk area. Locally damaging winds look to
be the primary threat at this time. Heavy rain is possible with
the moist air mass developing over the area. Highs will be in
the upper 80s/low 90s in most spots with some mid 90s possible
too.

Wednesday...The front from Tue weakens overnight and while
there is not much cold air behind it, drier air will overspread
most of the N and central areas by Wed. Precipitation will be
more scattered Wed with most activity expected for Delmarva and
coastal areas of NJ. We have mostly slight chc pops in attm with
any convective triggers not apparent attm. Highs again will
favor the upper 80s/low 90s with some cooler temps for the
southern Poconos where readings will be in the upper 70s/low
80s.

&&

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Broad H5 troughing across the Great Lakes and Northeast resumes
behind the systems from the short term. This troughing lasts until
next weekend when some guidance shows it relaxing a bit with more
zonal flow developing. This pattern points to no excessive heat for
the area during the Wed night-Fri period, but temperatures will be
within a few degrees of normal (we are about at the highest norms
for the year). Highs will be in the mid/upper 80s while lows be in
the 60s. Next weekend, above normal temps are expected with some 90s
in the urban areas and increasing humidity as well.

Rainfall with this type of pattern will likely keep the region dry
for the mid/late week period by then show an increase in chances for
rain for the weekend (especially Sunday) as the surface front
returns. Pops for the period (Wed night-Sat) will be held at mostly
slight chance (climo) for any isolated pop-up showers/tstms due to
local effects. After that, increasing humidity and the possibility
of short waves arriving in the zonal flow will lead us to put chc
pops in Sunday.

&&

.AVIATION /06Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Tonight...VFR. Some ground fog possible toward daybreak at a few of
the more rural terminals. Southeasterly winds 5-10 knots, becoming
light and variable to locally calm. Low confidence regarding any fog.

Monday...VFR. Light and variable winds, becoming south to southwest
near 10 knots. High confidence.

Outlook...

Monday night...VFR expected.

Tuesday and Tuesday night...VFR for the morning the lower
CIGS/VSBYS with showers and tstms the will move through mostly
during the afternoon and evening.

Wednesday through Friday...Mostly VFR.

&&

.MARINE...
High pressure will build eastward across the coastal waters of New
Jersey and Delaware through Monday.

The wind should remain in the east to south quadrant tonight with
speeds diminishing from 10 to 15 knots into the 5 to 10 knot range.
The wind is anticipated to settle into the southeast and south for
Monday with speeds increasing back to 10 to 15 knots.

Waves on our ocean waters are anticipated to be 3 to 4 feet, with
waves on Delaware Bay at 2 feet or less.

Outlook...
Monday night...Increasing S to SW winds and building seas, but
conditions will remain sub-SCA. Fair.

Tuesday and Tuesday night...SCA probable with gusts to 25 kts
and 4 to 6 ft seas on the ocean developing. Tstms Tue afternoon
and overnight.

Wednesday through Friday...Mostly sub-SCA with isolated to
scattered afternoon/evening showers and tstms.

Rip Currents...

For Monday, a southeast to south wind is forecast to increase some
during the late morning and afternoon. A medium period swell with 2-
3 foot breaking waves are expected, combined with tidal departures
also on the increase this week as a full moon occurs on Wednesday,
may result in stronger rip current development as tides lower. This
will result in a MODERATE risk for the development of dangerous rip
currents for the New Jersey and Delaware beaches.

For Tuesday, a more south-southwest wind is forecast although it
looks to be a little stronger than Monday. It will become more
parallel to parts of the coastline, however increasing tidal
departures due to the full moon Wednesday may still result in some
stronger rip currents. Went with a MODERATE risk for the development
of dangerous rip currents for the New Jersey beaches as parts of the
coast will have the wind direction more intersecting it, and opted
to go with a LOW risk for the Delaware beaches given a more
south/parallel wind.
