What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this small craft advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Philadelphia/Mount Holly wrote its last area forecast discussion before this small craft advisory went out at Jun 14, 9:34 PM EDT, 5 hours 8 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Jun 14, 9:34 PM EDT, 5 hours 8 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ
934 PM EDT Tue Jun 14 2022

.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure builds over the region through Wednesday. A warm
front lifts through on Thursday followed by a cold front on
Friday. High pressure builds in from the west for the weekend,
then low pressure may move along a front to our west early next
week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 930 PM, a surface front remains to our south and west
with a northerly low-level flow in place. This has brought in
lower dew points from the north. Some higher dew points, in the
mid to upper 60s, remain across parts of Delmarva. Other than a
little cirrus through the overnight, a mostly clear sky is
expected. The earlier well defined sea breeze boundary has
just about dissipated now as it neared the New Jersey Turnpike
corridor given quite a bit of boundary layer cooling occurring.
Made some tweaks to the hourly grids, especially temperatures
and dew points, based on the current observations and trends.

Otherwise, there could be patchy fog for portions of southern
New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland late tonight, especially for
areas that received rainfall today.

On Wednesday, the high shifts offshore to our northeast and our
forecast area will be on the southwestern side of the high. Dry
conditions are expected during the day, with mostly high cirrus
clouds expected, although some cumulus clouds could develop
during the day. With a return flow developing and less cloud
cover and no rain across the area, temperatures will return
above normal during the day Wednesday.

&&

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Elongated high pressure will extend from the Gulf of Maine down
to the Mid-Atlantic Wednesday night through Thursday, and will
gradually slide east throughout the day Thursday. Surface dew
points will gradually creep up from the upper 50s/low 60s to the
mid and upper 60s throughout the day Thursday as return flow
increases behind the departing high.

Meanwhile, an closed H5 low will track from western Canada into
central Canada, and a trough will spin off that low and advance
ahead of it. This trough will pass through the Great Lakes and
will move into the Ohio Valley Wednesday night, and then tracks
north of the region on Thursday. As it does, a warm front lifts
north through the region through Thursday night. Given the
increasing moisture over the area, this may be enough to spark
off some showers and thunderstorms. Highs on Thursday will be in
the 80s throughout, but temperatures warm well into the upper
80s and low 90s on Friday. With dew points well in the 60s, the
heat index on Friday may get into the middle 90s.

A cold front approaches from the west late Friday.

&&

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A cold front passes through Friday night, and then Canadian
high pressure builds in from the north and west for the weekend.
Omega block sets up with upper troughs over the East Coast and
the West Coast and strong mid-level high pressure over the
Southern Plains and western Gulf Coast states. The result for
the local area is dry and warm weather for the weekend with
highs in the 70s, dew points in the 40s, and abundant sunshine.
This may rival the weekend of June 4-5 as the nicest weather of
the year!

Upper trough over the East Coast departs on Monday, and the
ridge to the west builds east. Although the mid-level flow
becomes a bit more zonal, it will maintain somewhat of a
northwest flow. Several shortwaves will approach from the west,
and several rounds of convection are possible Monday night
through Tuesday. Temperatures gradually warm up through the 80s.
Surface dew points may approach 60 once again by Tuesday.

&&

.AVIATION /02Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Tonight...VFR. Northerly winds 3-5 knots, becoming light and
variable to locally calm. An earlier sea breeze resulted in a
southeasterly wind at ACY and MIV, however even here the winds
are expected to become light and variable or calm. High
confidence.

Wednesday...VFR. Winds become northeast 5 knots or less during
the morning, then become east to southeast through the afternoon
with an increase to 6-12 knots. Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Wednesday night...Predominantly VFR, but brief, sub-VFR
conditions possible in scattered SHRA/TSRA. SE winds less than
10 kt. Moderate confidence.

Thursday through Thursday night...Predominantly VFR, but brief,
sub-VFR conditions possible in scattered SHRA/TSRA. S wind less
than 10 kt. Moderate confidence.

Friday through Friday night...Predominantly VFR, but brief,
sub-VFR conditions possible in scattered SHRA/TSRA, ending
Friday evening. W winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt,
becoming NW less than 10 kt Friday night. Moderate confidence.

Saturday through Sunday...VFR. NW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts
to 20 kt during the day and less than 10 kt at night. High
confidence.

&&

.MARINE...
Tonight-Wednesday...Conditions are expected to remain below
advisory levels, although winds could gust around 20 knots at
times on Wednesday.

Outlook...

Sub-SCA conditions Wednesday night, and then winds and seas may
build close to SCA conditions Thursday afternoon and evening.
Sub- SCA conditions Friday through Friday night, and sub-SCA
conditions anticipated for Saturday through Sunday.

Rip currents...

A northeast wind 5 to 10 MPH on Wednesday morning is forecast
to become east to southeast at 10 to 15 MPH in the afternoon.
Breaking waves should be 1 to 2 feet with a medium period east
to south swell. Due to the onshore flow and the large tidal
range associated with the full moon, we have decided to upgrade
the threat for dangerous rip currents to MODERATE along the
coasts of Delaware and New Jersey for Wednesday.

A southeast wind 5 to 10 MPH on Thursday morning is expected to
become south at 10 to 15 MPH on Thursday afternoon. Breaking
waves are forecast to be 1 to 2 feet with a medium period east
to southeast swell. There is a LOW risk for the development of
dangerous rip currents on Thursday.

&&

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
The evening high tides are particularly high with this full
moon. As a result, there is little room for any positive tidal
departures before minor flooding begins to occur.

The tidal departures along the oceanfront with this morning's
high tide were generally around +0.6 to +0.7 feet. They should
not change much by this evening, even with the subtle onshore
flow. Therefore, we are expecting a round of minor flooding this
evening in the tidal areas of the Delaware and New Jersey
counties along the Atlantic coast (including Middlesex in New
Jersey). A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for those
areas from 7:00 PM this evening until 1:00 AM Wednesday.

The wind direction may briefly work its way around to the west
overnight before veering to the northeast on Wednesday morning.
The wind should gradually become east to southeast on Wednesday
at speeds of 10 to 15 MPH. The increased onshore flow will
likely cause tidal departures to increase a bit by the time we
reach Wednesday evening's high tide. Another round of minor
flooding is anticipated with water levels slightly higher than
those expected for this evening. Another Coastal Flood Advisory
is likely for Wednesday evening's high tide, and it will likely
need to include our counties along the ocean, as well as those
on Delaware Bay and perhaps the lower Delaware River.

Presently, it appears as though the upper eastern shore of
Chesapeake Bay will not experience any minor flooding issues.
