What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this small craft advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Philadelphia/Mount Holly wrote its last area forecast discussion before this small craft advisory went out at Mar 6, 3:48 PM EST, 2 hours 10 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Mar 6, 3:48 PM EST, 2 hours 10 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ
348 PM EST Sun Mar 6 2022

.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will progress from southern Quebec this afternoon
to Canada's Maritime Provinces tonight. The low is forecast to
pull a frontal boundary into northern Pennsylvania and southern
New England at that time. Another low is expected to track
northeastward from the Ohio River Valley along the front. It
will likely drag the boundary through our region early on Monday
night. High pressure is anticipated in its wake for Tuesday.
Weak low pressure is expected to pass off the Middle Atlantic
Coast on Wednesday with another weak low following on Thursday
afternoon. A strong cold front approaching from the west is
forecast to arrive early on Saturday with high pressure building
into our region from the west and southwest over the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
A cold front will approach the area from the west overnight
tonight, but stall across portions of northeast Pennsylvania and
northern New Jersey. In the meantime, a couple of short
wave/vorticity impulse will move across the area late this
afternoon and this evening. One is currently moving across the
area and creating some scattered showers. Another and stronger
short wave/vorticity impulse will move across the area this
evening which will likely lead to another enhanced period of
showers this evening across portions of southeast Pennsylvania,
southern New Jersey, Delaware, and eastern Maryland. Once these
showers end later this evening, the rest of the overnight hours
should remain dry, although a stray shower cannot be ruled out
as another short wave/vorticity impulse moves through overnight
and toward daybreak Monday.

On Monday, the frontal boundary that stalls out across the
northern portions of the area will lift back northward as an
area of low pressure moves along the boundary to our north.
Showers will be possible across portions of northeast
Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey through the day as a short
wave/vorticity impulse moves across the area while the front
lifts northward. However, the greatest chance of showers will
come later in the afternoon into the evening hours as a cold
front moves into the area. Strong southwest flow will occur
within the warm sector through the day Monday, with gusts
reaching 30-40 mph across most of the area, even some locally
higher gusts around 45 mph will be possible. With the strong
southwest flow, temperatures and dewpoints will also increase as
well. Some slight instability (100-200 J/kg) will develop ahead
of the front late in the day, although it may begin to wane by
the evening hours. Nevertheless, a line of showers will move in
from the west during the afternoon hours, and progress eastward
through the afternoon into evening. Wind shear increases across
the area to 50- 60 knots, so if there was more instability, we'd
be more concerned for severe weather. But due to the lack on
instability, mostly a line of strong showers with an isolated
thunderstorm is possible. A brief period of heavy rain, along
with gusty winds will be possible as the line moves across the
area.

&&

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Strong low pressure is forecast to be located in northeastern
New York and Vermont on Monday evening on its way toward
Canada's Maritime Provinces. The low will pull a strong cold
front through our region on Monday night, roughly between 8:00
PM and midnight. Showers are expected, along with some isolated
thunder due to the strength of the system and a bit of elevated
instability. Precipitable water values are forecast to increase
near 1.5 inches in the vicinity of the cold front. A brief
period of heavy rain is possible, especially in the upslope
areas of eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey. However,
its duration would not result in more than some localized
flooding in areas of poor drainage. One additional concern for
Monday evening is the wind. Speeds of 50+ MPH will likely exist
not far above the surface. Any moderate to heavy rain showers
could mix strong wind gusts to the surface.

Brisk cold advection is expected for late Monday night. Tuesday
will likely be dry and seasonable with some high clouds
overhead due to the presence of an upper level jet. Highs are
forecast to range from around 40 on the Pocono Plateau to the
lower 50s on the coastal plain. The wind should be from the
northwest at 10 to 15 MPH gusting to 20 to 25 MPH.

Low pressure is forecast to develop along the departing cold
front to our south. The weak low is anticipated to track from
Georgia and South Carolina on Tuesday night to the waters off
the Middle Atlantic Coast on Wednesday. The guidance has been
trending a bit farther to the northwest and north with the
clouds and precipitation associated with the system.

Some light rain may reach eastern Maryland and Delaware toward
daybreak on Wednesday. The rain is expected to overspread much
of the remainder of our forecast area on Wednesday. Temperatures
should rise into the 40s in our region. Depending on the timing
of the arrival of the rain, it could begin as a brief period of
wet snow in parts of eastern Pennsylvania and northern New
Jersey.

&&

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
High pressure is expected to try nosing into our region from
the northwest and north for Thursday into Friday. However,
another weak low is anticipated to pass off the Middle Atlantic
Coast on Thursday afternoon. The high should have only limited
influence on our weather. As a result, there should be a fair
amount of cloud cover for much of Thursday and Friday. There is
a chance of light rain on Thursday mainly in eastern Maryland,
Delaware and southern New Jersey due to the low to our south.
There is an increasing chance of showers on Friday throughout
our region.

A robust cold front approaching from the west is expected to
pass through eastern Pennsylvania, eastern Maryland, Delaware
and New Jersey around Saturday morning. The boundary will likely
bring additional showers along with a sharp drop in
temperatures. A drying trend and below normal temperatures are
anticipated for Saturday night and Sunday.

&&

.AVIATION /21Z SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Rest of today...Mostly VFR conditions prevail across the area,
although TTN will hold on to MVFR ceilings for another hour or
two. Showers will remain possible through the day, but should
not produce significantly reduced conditions this afternoon.
Winds have increased out of the west to southwest and will
remain gusty 20-30 knots through this afternoon. High
confidence.

Tonight...VFR conditions are expected to prevail through
tonight across the TAF sites. Showers will be possible for a
couple of hours this evening, before showers dissipate
overnight. Wind gusts will drop off around or shortly after
sunset and wind become 5-10 knots or less through the night.
High confidence.

Monday...Mostly VFR conditions expected. A brief period of MVFR
ceilings are possible around daybreak for ABE and RDG. LLWS is
also possible from PHL southward for a few hours around daybreak
as well.

A line of showers, with a few thunderstorms possible, will move
across the area from west to east through the afternoon. They
should arrive at ABE and RDG by 20z/21z and ILG/PHL/PNE/TTN by
22z-23z. A brief period of lower conditions will be possible
along with gusty winds. Winds will increase out of the southwest
through the day with gusts reaching 25-35 knots during the
afternoon. Moderate confidence.

Outlook...

Monday night...MVFR/IFR in showers and isolated thunder in the
evening. Conditions improving to VFR overnight. Southwest wind
15 to 20 knots with gusts of 30 to 35 knots, becoming northwest
10 to 15 knots with gusts of 20 to 25 knots. Medium confidence.

Tuesday...Mainly VFR. Northwest wind 10 to 15 knots gusting to
20 to 25 knots. High confidence.

Wednesday...Rain lowering conditions to MVFR/IFR. Variable wind
5 to 10 knots. Medium confidence.

Thursday...Mainly VFR. A chance of light rain generally from
around KPHL southward. Northeast wind 5 to 10 knots. Medium
confidence.

Friday...VFR/MVFR. An increasing chance of showers. Northeast
wind 5 to 10 knots, becoming southeast. Medium confidence.

&&

.MARINE...
Tonight-Monday...Small Craft Advisory conditions will continue
through tonight and Monday. Wind gusts are expected lower below
advisory levels for some areas this evening and overnight, but
seas will remain elevated through tonight. Winds will increase
once again on Monday and gust 25-30 knots. Gusts should remain
below 35 knots due to a strong inversion over the cooler waters.

Outlook...

Monday night into Tuesday morning...A Small Craft Advisory is
in effect. Southwest wind 15 to 20 knots with gusts of 25 to 30
knots, becoming northwest on Monday evening.

Tuesday afternoon through Thursday...No marine headlines are
anticipated.

Friday...Wave heights on our ocean waters may increase to
around 5 feet.
