.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure centered well to our east will weaken tonight. A weak
cold front will approach the region tomorrow. The front is expected
to stall and fall apart across or near our region through the
weekend. Surface high pressure will once again build early next
week. A potentially stronger cold front could track through our
region the middle portion of next week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
Hot day in progress with widespread temperatures well into the 90s
and heat indices of 100+ due to the high humidity. This is due to a
SW flow on the northwestern side of high pressure over the western
Atlantic. Mainly sunny skies continue as of the mid afternoon but
there are storms that have formed west of the CWA over central PA.
As we head through the late afternoon into this evening expect
storms to our west to track eastward with chances for isolated to
scattered storms spreading into eastern PA, Delmarva, and eventually
NJ. Lack of shear should keep them from getting well organized but
ML CAPE values topping out over 2000 j/kg and DCAPEs over 1000 j/kg
could still support some localized severe storms. Damaging winds
would be the main threat. Any stronger storms will weaken by the
late evening. Overnight, however, increasing deep layer moisture in
advance of an approaching cold front along with weak
perturbations aloft could still result in some isolated
showers/storms along with increasing cloud cover. It will be a
very warm, muggy night with continuing southwest flow with lows
mostly in the 70s, except 60s over the Lehigh Valley, southern
Poconos, and NW NJ.
Friday is shaping up to be a more active day across the area,
especially heading into the afternoon. The approaching cold front
will weaken and "wash out" to our north through the day but expect a
weak trough at the surface to set up by afternoon...likely near or
just south of the urban corridor. There will also be continuing deep
layer moisture advection into the area with PWATs rising to 2+
inches. The upshot of all this is that it will be a cloudier day
(which will keep temperatures down some compared to today) but still
quite humid with increasing chances for showers and storms through
the afternoon, especially after 3 PM or so. Locally damaging winds
will be possible with any storms but the bigger concern is potential
flooding / flash flooding due to the very high moisture content
along with slow storm motion vectors. Limiting factor will be the
recent dry weather. Best chances for any flash flooding issues will
be near and just north/west of the urban corridor from Wilmington to
Philly and then across SE PA. Highs Friday will be in the upper 80s
to low 90s for most areas with the Heat Advisory remaining in effect
through the day for our urban corridor counties.
For Friday night, front continues to wash out just to our north with
very week steering currents aloft. The result will be that deep
moisture lingers with weak perturbations continuing to move
through in the upper level flow. This could keep conditions
quite active with showers/storms, potentially heavy, right
through much of the evening before activity should wane
overnight.

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
A weak cold front will try to push through the region on Saturday.
It appears, like so many other cold fronts this summer, this front
will also stall across or near our region. It will then likely wash
out.
With no real good push of cooler air, highs on both Saturday and
Sunday will remain around 90 for most of the forecast area. Looks
like there will be a good amount of clouds on Saturday. Less on
Sunday. But with dewpoints in the lower to middle 70s, heat indices
in the upper 90s to around 100 degrees can still be expected across
our warmest locales. Overnight lows will bottom out in the mid 70s
across the urban corridor.
Shower/thunderstorm chances on both Saturday and Sunday likely will
be driven by the remains of said front, differential heating, sea
and/or bay breezes. Thinking more pulse type convection vs. long
duration, organized convection.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
The story here is the continued heat. Basically daily heat indices
in the upper 90s to around 100 degrees from Thursday, Aug 4th
through Tuesday, August 9th. Urban areas will bottom out no lower
than the middle 70s at night offering little recovery.
The period begins with mid-level and surface ridging. The ridging
slowly weakens and allows a trough to settle across the region on
Wednesday. At the surface, a cold front is forecast to move through
around the Wednesday time frame.
There will be a lee side surface trough sloshing somewhere in the
forecast area Sunday through Tuesday. This will help produce
scattered convection each afternoon. Another round of showers and
thunderstorms can be expected on Wednesday with the anticipated cold
front.
As mentioned, heat will remain across the region through Tuesday.
Afternoon highs will be around 90 or in the lower 90s. Heat indices
will be in the upper 90s to around 100. Wednesday and Thursday looks
a bit cooler with afternoon high temperatures maxing out in the
middle 80s.

.AVIATION /20Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Tonight...Predominantly VFR. Isolated to scattered TSRA expanding
into the area during the evening before dissipating overnight.
Patchy fog could result at KABE/KRDG overnight where precip is most
likely. Winds generally S to SW 5-10 kts. Moderate confidence.
Friday through Friday night...Starting VFR. A risk for TSRA mostly
after 18Z could result in brief visibility and ceiling restrictions.
Southwesterly winds less than 10 kt, though an afternoon sea breeze
at KACY could change winds to southerly. Storms could linger into
Friday evening before dimishing overnight. Low confidence.
Outlook...
Saturday through Tuesday...Mainly VFR conditions. Terminals could see
restrictions each afternoon and evening resulting from showers
and/or thunderstorms. The showers and thunderstorms will be isolated
to scattered in nature, so confidence is on the low side regarding
any shower/thunderstorm hitting a terminal. S winds 5 to 15 kt on
Saturday, and SW 5 to 15 kts Sunday through Tuesday.

Through Friday... sub-SCA conditions expected. Southerly winds
becoming southwesterly tonight, increasing from around 10 kts today
to around 15 kts tonight into Friday with gusts up to 20 kts. Seas 2-

At 715 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Pughtown, or 14 miles northwest of West Chester, moving northeast at
20 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
possible.
