.SHORT TERM...

Today and Tonight:

Be careful driving this morning as there could be some slippery
stretches on roads due to refreeze and some lingering light snow
accumulations on roads. Precipitation has moved out of the area so
we'll start out the day dry, but we'll remain cloudy with
temperatures in the 20s and upper teens.

We'll see some upper level divergence develop overhead this
afternoon along with some positive vorticity advection clipping
far southeast Wisconsin but there will be some dry air to combat.
With the southern track of the low moving from Oklahoma into the
Ohio Valley today most of the lift with this system will remain to
the south therefore keeping the heavy snow out of our area. Far
southeast Wisconsin though could see a light dusting of snow this
afternoon before the upper level trough clears the area and even
drier air moves in.

Skies will clear tonight under the shortwave ridge and surface
high pressure with temperatures falling into the single digits
across the area. Winds will be light, but wind chills are expected
to be in the negative single digits overnight.

.LONG TERM...

Friday through Wednesday:

A progressive pattern is expected while nwly flow aloft will
transition to swly flow.

A sfc ridge will shift ewd across srn WI Fri AM, followed by
breezy sly flow and warm advection for Fri afternoon as a strong
upper wave and low pressure area tracks along the Canadian border
and nrn Great Lakes. The arctic front will pass Fri evening with
small chances for snow showers. Brisk nwly winds are expected
after the frontal passage, while a burst of wind gusts up to 45
mph will be possible at frontal passage. Polar high pressure will
quickly shift across the region on Sat. Single digit temps in the
morning will rebound to around 20F for the afternoon.

A much less amplified shortwave trough and wave of low pressure will
then move from the nrn Great Plains to Quebec, Canada for Sat nt-Sun
nt. Breezy swly winds and a surge of relatively mild air will
arrive for Sun with high temps well into the 40s. The trailing
cold will then arrive on Mon.

Cyclogenesis will likely occur to some degree from the Great Plains
into the Great Lakes or farther south through the Ohio Valley for
early next week. The NBM gives fairly high probs for pcpn and
accumulating snow looks likely. Cannot rule out mixed pcpn in far
srn WI. A cold and dry airmass then settle over srn WI for Wed.

Gusty northerly winds continue today with gales around 35 knots
over the southern half of Lake Michigan. As temperatures fall
overnight heavy freezing spray will be possible over the open
waters of the northern two thirds of Lake Michigan. Winds will
briefly become light and variable late tonight as high pressure
moves through, but southwest winds build again Friday ahead of
another low pressure system. Gales look likely over the open
waters and could impact the nearshore waters Friday afternoon into
Saturday morning. Winds will become northwesterly behind the front
Friday night with heavy freezing spray possible.

Small craft conditions and gales over the open waters will be
possible again Saturday night into Sunday as another low pressure
system quickly moves through.

A Gale Warning remains in effect for the southern Lake Michigan
open waters for occasional gusts to 35 knots into this evening. A
Heavy Freezing Spray Warning is in effect across the northern
Lake Michigan open waters until late tonight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Thursday

Frequent Gale force gusts are expected once again Friday afternoon
into Saturday morning. A Gale Warning has been posted fall the
Lake Michigan Open Waters during this period.

The threat for heavy freezing spray returns Friday night into
Saturday as well.

Another round of gales will be possible Saturday night into
Sunday.
