.SYNOPSIS...
Expect more typical summer-like weather across the Carolinas
through Monday with much warmer temperatures and only isolated
shower or thunderstorm activity. A cold front will bring a
better chance of showers or thunderstorms late Monday into
Monday night with a return to normal temperatures on Tuesday. Much
warmer weather is expected mid to late week under continued dry
conditions.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
Convergence along sea breeze evident on Satellite, along with a
decent cu field and some passing mid to high clouds. Mainly
isolated shwrs along trough inland and sea breeze boundary
pushing inland through late today. All will dissipate into this
evening once heating of the day cuts off.
Lingering troughiness aloft will shift eastward on Mon as mid to
upper trough drives a cold front east. This could produce
mainly cloud into the I-95 corridor Mon morning but otherwise
focus will switch to sea breeze convection Mon aftn closer to
the coast and then other convection flaring ahead of front later
in the day. Overall, deep S-SW flow will increase ahead of a
cold front on Monday with a very warm and humid airmass in
place. Temps will reach well into the 80s to around 90 and
dewpoints will be in the mid 60s. The main upper level support
will be to the north, but expect better chc of shwrs/tstms in
this warm and moist air mass with increasing moisture and
instability through the late aftn time period. Pcp water reaches
up near 1.6 inches in the I-95 corridor by late aftn with CAPE
above 2k and very dry mid to upper level westerly flow. Expect
convective development with potential for isolated stronger
storms to reach ahead of a cold front approaching from the west
later in the day into the early eve. Main threat would be gusty
winds or hail. SPC has outlined area in marginal risk for severe
(level 1 of 5).

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
Axis of negatively tilted 500 mb trough will push off the coast
early Monday evening, followed by passage of the surface cold front
after midnight. Strong convection that develops Monday afternoon
will linger into the evening and overnight ahead of fropa. It
appears it may be as late as 6 am Tuesday before the front has
completely cleared the coast. Post-frontal CAA will drop max temps
Tuesday down a category from Monday, with mid 80s expected for most
areas. Surface high will slide across the area Tuesday afternoon and
night. Light/calm winds expected overnight, with lows dropping to
around 60 away from the immediate coast. At the beaches, water temps
will keep lows in the mid 60s.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Mid-levels will remain fairly dry Wednesday in westerly flow aloft,
with moisture increasing Wednesday night. Low-amplitude pattern will
provide no dynamic support for organized convection, but with
southerly flow and low-level moisture on the increase Thursday-
Friday, can't rule out an isolated shower or thunderstorm along the
sea breeze front or Piedmont trough. Temps will trend up late week
into the weekend as heights rise over the southeast CONUS and
tropical Atlantic. Warm advection below 800 mb will push temps up
Thu-Sat, with highs reaching into the 90s away from the coast.
Latest blended model data continues to warm, with near-record highs
becoming part of the conversation for FLO and LBT Thursday and
Friday. Convection potential will increase on Sunday as moisture
increases throughout the column ahead of a frontal system.&&
.AVIATION /18Z SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Isolated shras/tstms this aftn but not enough to warrant VCSH
at any terminals. Sea breeze affecting wind speeds/directions at
coastal terminals. Dry and VFR tonight with some mid to high
clouds, but a trough shifts east Mon with potential for VCSH
and possible brief MVFR between 13-16z at inland terminals of
FLO and LBT. Patchy fog is also possible but will leave out of
TAF for now.
Extended Outlook....A cold front will bring a bit more coverage
of shwrs/tstms later on Mon before drying out again into
midweek as high pressure builds in.

.MARINE...
Through Monday...Southerly return flow around high pressure off
shore will increase into Monday as cold front approaches from
the west. Gusty winds near shore due to sea breeze will diminish
into this evening but will once again spike up near shore Mon
afternoon.
Expect borderline SCA conditions as winds increase ahead of the
approaching cold front through Mon aftn. Expect SW winds
to increase up to 15 kts with gust up to 20-25 kt. Seas will
increase from 2 to 4 ft up to 3 to 5 ft Mon with the continued
SE swells at 8 seconds along with shorter period wind wave chop.
Monday through Thursday...SW flow on the order of 15-20 kt
expected Monday night ahead of an approaching cold front. Scattered
showers/storms will be possible ahead of the front, which should
move off the coast in the predawn hours Tuesday. The gradient behind
the front not too impressive, although typically there is at least a
moderate post-frontal NE surge in winds. This should be relatively
brief, with winds veering to the ESE by late Tuesday morning or
perhaps early afternoon. Benign conditions Tuesday afternoon through
Wednesday as weak high pressure slides over the waters. S-SW flow
will increase to 15-20 kt Wednesday and continue through Friday as
high pressure sets up offshore. Strong sea breeze development will
enhance winds near the coast each day, particularly Thu and Fri when
temps over land surge into the 90s.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Minor coastal flooding will continue over the area beaches and
along the Cape Fear River during mainly evening high tides
early this week due to the full moon tonight. Persistent
onshore to southerly flow has also aided in the elevated water
levels, but as winds diminish the extent of flooding threat will
drop, but will remain higher than normal due to the
astronomical full moon tides.
