.SYNOPSIS...Dry weather with above normal interior temperatures are
forecast to prevail through tomorrow. Stratus will continue to
blanket coastal areas through the weekend during the overnight and
morning periods. Stronger northerly winds should help to clear out
the stratus in the afternoons this weekend. Cooler temperatures and
breezy winds are forecast this weekend as disturbances sweeps
through the area.

.DISCUSSION...Widespread stratus was observed this morning along
much of the coast and protruded well inland, with some pockets of
drizzle this morning. Expect another round of similar conditions
tonight and Friday morning. Interior areas will remain quite warm
this afternoon and tomorrow, with interior valleys reaching into the
mid to upper 90s. The hottest spots will likely top out in the 100
to 105 range. A shortwave trough will move southward into the
Pacific Northwest late on Friday and the associated cold front is
forecast to move across the area on Saturday. There's still a little
uncertainty in the exact track the shortwave will take, but model
guidance continues to show it being dry. The most likely outcome
will be another round of drizzle along the coast. Another impact
will be some breezy west to northwest on Saturday along the coast
and over area ridges. Gusts look to top out around 20 mph or so and
humidities should be a little higher with the passing front. Will
just keep the headline the Fire Weather Forecast. High pressure
looks to build over the Western U.S. in the wake of the passing
shortwave early next week. Above normal interior temperatures should
return, along with drier conditions through midweek. Most clusters
then show another trough approaching late next week, but confidence
is not high in the details.

.AVIATION...Stratus is thinning out as of 21z from the north coast.
Overcasts skies with ceilings around 1000 feet at KACV and KCEC,
could continue to lift out as model soundings show the inversion
slightly rising but lowering and strengthening this evening. The
Marine layer will be ever present at KACV through the weekend while
KCEC is less so. MVFR/VFR conditions in the late afternoon today at
KACV as clouds scatter out. KCEC is also beginning to go broken for
cloud groups which could improve conditions to MVFR which may last a
few hours. Otherwise inland skies are mostly clear except for smoke
in northeastern Humboldt county. KUKI has prevailing VFR conditions
with southerly winds building.

.MARINE...Gusty northerly winds will briefly ease across the outer
coastal waters today. Winds will quickly pick back up later tonight
in the northern waters and will spread to the southern waters
overnight into Friday morning. Northerlies will continue
strengthening through the weekend even reaching up to 35 kt in the
northern outer waters. A Gale watch has been hoisted to cover the
conditions beginning Saturday afternoon. Otherwise, steep-wind
generated short period seas will also linger as winds ease and build

.FIRE WEATHER...A shortwave trough and associated cold front will be
cooler temperatures and more moist conditions will take hold on
Saturday. In addition, west to northwest winds will be a bit more
breezy than the previous couple of days along the coast and across
area ridges. Gusts are forecast to top out around 20 mph or so. High
pressure and warmer interior temperatures are forecast to return in
the wake of the passing trough early next week.
