Southeast flow Thursday and Friday will bring a brief period of increasing moisture, mainly to northwest Arizona and the lower Colorado River Valley, though hot conditions will continue. && .UPDATE...We're on track to be a few degrees warmer today than yesterday across the region as the ridge meanders overhead. Besides some patchy mid-level clouds across the eastern half of the CWA, expect dry and mostly clear skies today. No forecast updates were necessary this morning. -Peters && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued at 218 AM PDT Tue Jul 6 2021/ .SHORT TERM...Today through Wednesday. Temperatures will continue their upward trend today and Wednesday adding another 2-3 degrees each day which will kick off another prolonged period of excessive heat extending into early next week. Forecast highs exceed record values for Bishop beginning Wednesday while other sites such as Las Vegas and Death Valley will be within 2-3 degrees of records. No changes are planned to the Excessive Heat Watch going into effect Wednesday through Monday. Some mid level clouds could be seen on satellite loops being drawn up from southwest and central Arizona in weak southeast flow. There are no concerns of any convection today or Wednesday as low levels remain dry with dewpoints in the 30s and the air mass remains quite stable with a capping layer above 500 mb. .LONG TERM...Thursday through next Monday. On Thursday, high pressure will be centered east; near the Four Corners region. This will open the door for an intrusion of moisture as ensembles indicate precipitable water values in excess of 1 inch returning into southern Mohave County, up the Colorado River Valley and San Bernardino County deserts. This will help temper the temperatures slightly and potentially introduce the possibility of a shower/thunderstorm back into southern Mohave and eastern San Bernardino County though the probability is currently less than 10 percent so there is no mention in the weather grids. Friday-Monday: High pressure center shifts back west over Nevada and the Mojave Desert. Temperatures for the weekend into early next week will be at their hottest. An Excessive Heat Watch has already been issued for another long duration heat event.
