PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Keep in mind you may need to adjust your plans based on the latest health and safety guidelines from CDC and your local officials. Cooling shelters may need to take your temperature or ask questions about how you are feeling. Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tucson AZ 230 AM MST Wed Jun 9 2021 .SYNOPSIS...Typical June temperatures the next couple of days. Strong high pressure will heat things up late in the week into next week, with temperatures around 10 degrees hotter than average Sunday into early next week. && .DISCUSSION...Southwest flow aloft as the area is between strong high pressure centered over Chihuahua MX and a Pacific trof which will move across the NW part of the CONUS later today into Thursday. Enjoy the near normal highs today and tomorrow for the heat machine will be cranking up this weekend into next week. The strong upper high to our southeast will be expanding over the desert southwest later in the week through the weekend bringing near record high temperatures Saturday then record to near record highs Sunday into early next week. The forecast highs Mon/Tue were leaned toward the high end of the temperature spread with the 00z GFS/ECMWF thickness numbers suggesting it could even be slightly hotter. In coordination with WFO we will hoist up a Excessive Heat Watch starting late Sunday morning into Tuesday for most of Pima county, southeast Pinal and Graham county. As the high pushes into northern AZ next week the flow aloft becomes easterly which will bring an increase in mid-level moisture to the area for a slight chance of mainly mountain storms, likely dry, early next week. Some timing differences between the GEFS (Mon) and EPS (Tue) on the increase of this slightly above normal moisture for mid-June. && .AVIATION...Valid through 10/00Z. VFR conditions with FEW-SCT clouds above 20k ft MSL. SFC winds SWLY/NWLY 10-15 kts with gusts 20-25 kts this afternoon and early evening. Expect similar speeds Wednesday afternoon. Sfc winds then diminish to light and variable once again aft 09/03Z. Aviation discussion not updated for TAF amendments. && .FIRE WEATHER...Dry and hot weather is expected through this weekend as temperatures gradually climb to well above normal levels. Some increased mid level moisture is possible early next week which could increase the dry lightning threat. Otherwise, typical afternoon breezes with gusts to around 20-25 mph is expected each day this week due to strong daytime heating. Minimum humidities will generally be in the single digits in the valleys and 6-12% in the mountains with poor overnight recoveries.
