DISCUSSION...
Fred has still not recovered from his prolonged interaction with
the island of Cuba. Nevertheless, convective bands associated with
the remnants will continue to impact SWFL and spiral
northwestward towards Tampa, or just south of there, through the
remainder of the overnight hours. Forcing for accent and low level
wind profiles will keep a gusty wind and low-end
tornado/waterspout threat for coastal areas. As the system starts
to move north, rain bands and the aforementioned gusty wind /
tornado threat will also move north into the Tampa Bay and Nature
Coast regions. Although daytime heating will naturally trigger
northward showers and storms over inland areas this afternoon,
expect much of the rain directly tied to Fred's circulation to
remain west of I-75 as well as our coastal waters. Cloud cover and
rain cooled air will keep SWFL and much of the Tampa Bay area in
mid to upper 80s, with temps climbing up to around 90 farther
inland and north. Despite a pleasant southeast breeze today,
it'll be muggy with dewpoints in the middle 70s. But hey, that's
Florida in August... As the remnants of Fred pull off to the
north into Alabama, south to southwest flow will promote an
increase in rip currents; and PWATs in excess of 2.00 inches with
enhanced low level convergence will keep abundant showers/storms
in the forecast through mid week..
After we say goodbye to Fred's impacts or so days out, folks in
the Sunshine state will need to pay attention to Tropical Storm
Grace, which will impact Puerto Rico later today. There is
significant model uncertainty to the future of Grace as its path
across the northern Caribbean islands will help to determine its
fate. The more interaction with Hispaniola, the weaker the system
will become. Nevertheless, current thinking brings a tropical
storm into the eastern Gulf by the middle of the week. It's
something to pay very close attention to, but as it typically the
case of storms that move over the islands, it'll be a lot of
waiting and seeing. Fortunately, we should be well prepared and
equipped to deal with the tropics as this comes with the territory
of living in Florida. Stay tuned to your local NWS and the
National Hurricane Center for the latest and greatest information
regarding the tropics and hazards that may come with them.
MARINE...
Hazardous boating conditions, especially across the offshore
waters, will exist today as the remnants of Fred works its way
towards the Central Gulf Coast. Advisories are up outside of 20nm
and headlines are in place for the nearshore waters, excluding the
bays. Abundant tropical moisture will keep showers and isolated
thunderstorms in place, and higher wind gusts are possible inside
of convection. Conditions will improve temporarily before mariners
need to look at the possibility that Tropical Storm Grace will
enter our waters towards the second half of the week. Significant
uncertainty remains in this portion of the forecast, however.

FIRE WEATHER...
The remnants of Fred will continue to work its way towards the
Central Gulf Coast. Abundant showers and thunderstorms will be
prevalent across West Central and Southwest Florida for the next
couple of days. No significant fire weather concerns exist over
