.SYNOPSIS...Showers will continue at times tonight and Saturday
morning with shower activity decreasing Saturday afternoon. A
warmer and much wetter system will arrive Sunday with periods of
heavy rain and rising snow levels into early Tuesday. Strong west
northwesterly flow aloft will cause a rain shadow over portions
of the Central Puget Sound Sunday. Additional systems are likely
for the end of next week.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...Satellite imagery shows
weather system moving into Central and Southern Oregon. Doppler
radar has showers across most of the area with the Olympics dry at
8 pm/04z.
Forecast in good shape tonight. Weather system to the south will
move slowly east and weaken overnight into Saturday morning
leaving a weak upper level trough over Western Washington. Weak
convergence zone possible over Snohomish County Saturday morning. Shower
activity decreasing especially over the lowlands Saturday
afternoon with a combination of some warm advection and a weak
upper level ridge ahead of the next weather system moving into the
area. The break will be short lived with rain out ahead of the
next system spreading over most of the area Saturday night.
Increasing west northwesterly flow aloft will cause a rain shadow
over portions of the Central Puget Sound. Atmospheric river aimed
over Northern Vancouver Island and the British Columbia coastline
Sunday with rain continuing across most of the area. Like
Saturday night the Central Puget Sound will continue to be rain
shadowed keeping pops around 50 percent. Atmospheric river sagging
south Sunday night into Monday. Increasing moisture will
eventually overwhelm the rain shadow effect with heavy
precipitation in the mountains. Snow levels will be above pass
level Sunday night into Monday. Atmospheric river sagging south of
the area Monday night.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...Previous discussion follows. Some
lingering troughiness will allow for showers to continue into
Tuesday as precip amounts gradually diminish. Wednesday sees a
short lived ridge build into the area for a brief dry period. That
exits stage left rather quickly though as another frontal system
pushes onto the coast by Wed evening/Thurs AM. This front along
with the associated upper level trough looks to keep rain in for
the remainder of the forecast period...becoming more showery as
the system starts to pull away Friday.
All this activity means daytime highs will take a bit of a hit, but
not much, as lowland temps will fall back into the upper 40s, but
not budge much from there. Overnight lows will follow a similar
trend, lingering in the upper 30s. The exception will be Tuesday
night, as some clearing associated with the brief upper level ridge
will allow for temps to plunge a bit. Most lowland locations during
that time will see lows in the mid 30s, although portions of the SW
interior could dip to the lower 30s. 18

.AVIATION...Westerly flow aloft becoming northwesterly on
Saturday as upper trough axis shifts east of the region. The air
mass is moist with scattered showers gradually diminishing
overnight. A mix of VFR and MVFR ceilings are expected to
deteriorate to primarily MVFR by morning. Ceilings expected to
lift to VFR Saturday afternoon as mid and high level moisture
arrives ahead of next approaching frontal system.
KSEA...VFR ceilings lowering to MVFR overnight with the
showers in the vicinity. Ceilings expected to improve to VFR
again Saturday afternoon as higher level moisture increases
ahead of next frontal system. Surface winds southerly 5 to 10 knots.

.MARINE...A weak, 1012 mb, low will pass into Oregon tonight with
onshore flow continuing across western WA. Swells will remain around
10-11 ft through Saturday for Small Craft Advisory Conditions over
the Coastal Waters. Southerly flow will increase Saturday night and
Sunday as a stronger Pacific frontal system arrives. Winds will
become more westerly as a cold front moves inland Sunday night and
Monday. Seas will also build to 14-19 feet, peaking on Tuesday. 33

.HYDROLOGY...A wet atmospheric river system will impact W WA
Sunday into Tuesday with heavy rainfall and rising snow levels.
This will bring the potential for river flooding. Highest area of
concern currently remains on the Skokomish and Chehalis river
basins which could reach flood stage on Monday into Tuesday.
ESFSEW continues for the Skokomish River. Will continue to monitor
other areas especially given remaining uncertainty in exact
