.SHORT TERM...(Tonight through Saturday Night)
Issued at 300 PM MST Fri Feb 12 2021

A wild weather day again with respect to temperatures over the
region. We have 30s and 40s in the west and subzero readings in
the north and east parts of the region. It has been snowing in
many parts of the region today, but not the Wind River Basin.
The arctic front made it to a Rock Springs to Farson line this
morning and has modified a bit along this line, but the northeast
wind has won out so far. The forecast issue tonight will be the
temperatures. Another very cold night east of the divide is
expected with lows 10 to 20 below zero. There will be cloud cover,
but any partial clearing will allow temps to drop rapidly. In the
west, milder lows in the teens and 20s will occur. The front will
bisect Sweetwater County near the Rock Springs area. Big issue is
will the west wind push the front eastward out of Rock Springs.
Will give them a cold low temp for now and see what happens. As
for the light snow, it will decrease or end in the west tonight,
but increase again by morning. East of the divide, areas of light
snow will occur tonight with light snow accumulations expected.

On Saturday, the next weather system will impact the west and
south with less impact in the north and central. Snow will occur
in the west and southwest with another 5 to 10 inches in the
western mountains, and 2 to 3 inches in the valleys and the
southwest. The Star Valley may see another 3 to 5 inches. Will
keep the snow highlights going with no changes in timing. For the
north and central, areas of light snow will occur with minor
accumulations expected. Still very cold along and east of the
divide with highs 5 above to 5 below zero. Highs in the west and
southwest will be in the 20s and 30s once again. The cold front
will linger in eastern Sweetwater county with teens on one side
and 30s on the other side.

Snow will continue into Saturday night and decrease after
midnight in most areas. The models are dragging some of the cold
air west of the divide for Saturday night, but not nearly as bad
as east of the divide. Partial clearing will occur in the north
and central late Saturday night. Will keep lows of 10 to 20 below
zero east of the divide with a few places colder if the sky clears
out some. In the west, lows will range from 5 above to 5 below
zero.

.LONG TERM...(Sunday through Friday)

Snow should mostly be out of the region by Sunday, with lingering
snow showers across the west. With some energy tracking across the
south, parts of Sweetwater County and the Green River Basin may also
see some lingering snow showers through the day Sunday. Northwest
flow will continue to be the story through the majority of the
period. This means those snow showers across the western part of the
state will continue through much of next week. The next bigger push
of snow looks to be Monday and into Tuesday. The greatest impacts
will once again be across the western mountains. Models are still
showing a large amount of uncertainty on snowfall totals, so will
not make any guesses on amounts at this time. Models are hinting
at another system moving across the region later in the week, but
there is a significant amount of uncertainty on storm track and
timing with this. Again, it does look to be a primarily west of
the Divide event in the predominant northwest flow.

In terms of temperatures, the bitter cold will continue Sunday and
into Monday. Monday the cold finally begins to lift out, but with
snow cover and 700mb temps not improving much until later in the
week, the warm up will be slow, especially across the north and east
where there is snow cover. Did lower temps across the Bighorn basin,
and Johnson and Natrona Counties, but the forecast may still be too
warm. Temperatures across the Wind River Basin will likely warm up
into the 30s potentially by the end of the week as ridging moves in
briefly for the middle of the week.

West of the Divide...KBPI/KJAC/KPNA/KRKS Terminals

MVFR conditions are expected at all terminals through much of the
TAF period due to low ceilings and snow. Periods of IFR are also
likely at times due to restrictions in visibility from snow. Snow
will increase in intensity at KJAC after 12Z. Snow will also
increase and fill in for KBPI, KPNA, and KRKS at around 12Z. Snow
will continue through most of the period, decreasing after 06Z
Sunday.

East of the Divide...KCOD/KCPR/KLND/KRIW/KWRL Terminals

MVFR to low VFR ceilings are expected at area terminals through the
TAF period. Areas of light snow will continue over the north
impacting KCOD, KCPR, and KWRL. KLND and KRIW will see occasional
flurries and very light snow off and on through the period. Winds
will generally be light through the period, but increase at KRIW and
KCPR after around 00Z Sunday. Snow will decrease after 00Z Sunday.
