What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this special marine warning went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Philadelphia/Mount Holly wrote its last area forecast discussion before this special marine warning went out at Jun 22, 10:21 AM EDT, 3 hours 26 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Jun 22, 10:21 AM EDT, 3 hours 26 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ
1021 AM EDT Tue Jun 22 2021

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front attached to a low pressure system across Canada will
track slowly through the today. High pressure then builds in behind
the system, leading to quiet weather through the remainder of the
work week. An area of low pressure will cross the Great Lakes and
drag a cold front closer to our forecast area into the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Some small updates to the earlier grids. Overall, much is
working out as expected with some adjustments to sky cover and
pops performed. We are continuing to see showers expanding in
coverage across Pennsylvania and now into northern NJ and Delmarva.
A front with a weak wave of low pressure will continue across
the area this afternoon. A short wave aloft will ride northeast
along an upper trough axis from the Carolinas and into Maine by
this evening. While no significant rainfall totals are expected,
it will be a bit dreary the rest of the morning and into the
afternoon. Winds will shift to the northwest from 10 to 15 mph
with highs staying much cooler than yesterday in the low to mid
70s. Rainfall totals of 1/2 to 3/4 inches can be expected. The
higher totals will mostly be across NJ and srn DE.

The severe risk will be low today, though enough daytime
heating looks to result in up to 1000 to 2000 J/kg of MUCAPE in
extreme southeastern Delaware. That is really the only area of
concern today, where we could see a severe cell or two if enough
clearing takes place this morning. The threats look similar to
yesterday with isolated damaging winds and perhaps small hail.

Lows will be much cooler as well tonight as skies clear and all
lingering rainfall pushes offshore with the complete cold
fropa. Look for lows to range from the mid 40s across the
Poconos and far NW New Jersey to the low 50s across the urban
corridor and Coastal Plain. Northwest flow will continue to dry
us out, but should remain strong enough with a breeze from 5 to
10 mph to preclude much fog formation. Can't rule this out
entirely in the river valleys north and west of the Fall Line.

Wednesday should be a gorgeous day with the surface high
building directly overhead, resulting in abundant sunshine. Low
dewpoints and humidity values will keep us quite comfortable
with highs in the mid to upper 70s. A great day to go for a run
or walk the pup!

&&

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
High pressure at the surface and weak subsidence aloft continues
Wednesday night leading to fair weather and temps slightly below
normal in the 50s. High pressure begins to nose offshore heading
into Thursday as the southerly flow returns and warm air
advection begins. At the surface a weak low pressure system
should start to lift north perhaps bringing some small chances
for showers late in the day Thursday and mostly for the coastal
waters.

&&

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
The end of the week through the weekend will see several chances
for showers as a trough over the central CONUS brings a frontal
system towards the Mid Atlantic. This will couple with high
pressure over the Atlantic Waters to stall out the front leaving
our region in between systems. With ample moisture being
advected in southerly warm air we should have enough lift and
moisture for showers to develop each of the days. Not expecting
any particular day to be a washout but certainly a good idea to
have a rain jacket close by. With warm air pushing in and the
front not clearing the region, temps should warm back again well
into the upper 80s for the weekend on overnight lows in the low
70s.

&&

.AVIATION /14Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG, KILG,
KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Today...Conditions will deteriorate through the rest of the morning
as rain showers move eastward into the region. We can't rule out
a rumble or two of thunder either. Light southwest winds around
5 knots will turn northwesterly from 10 to 15 knots by later
this morning and continue into the evening hours. Moderate
confidence.

Tonight...VFR conditions return as the showers exit the region.
Winds out of the north-northwest from 5 to 10 knots. High
confidence.

Wednesday...VFR with northwest winds from 5 to 10 knots. High
confidence.

Outlook...

Thursday...Mostly VFR with east-southeasterly winds from 5 to 10
knots and gusts to 15 knots. Moderate confidence.

Friday...Mainly VFR conditions expected however conditions may
lower with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Southeasterly winds from 10 to 15 knots. Moderate confidence.

Saturday...VFR with scattered MVFR conditions in showers and
thunderstorms. South wind 10 to 15 knots.

&&

.MARINE...
Today...Generally sub-advisory conditions with northwest winds from
10 to 15 knots. A few gusts may approach 25 knots in the afternoon
but they don't look widespread or significant enough to warrant an
advisory at this time. Seas from 2 to 4 feet.

Tonight...Sub-advisory conditions with northwest winds from 10 to 15
knots and gusts to 20 knots. Seas from 2 to 4 feet.

Wednesday...Sub-advisory conditions once again with northerly winds
from 15 to 20 knots in the morning lessening to around 10 knots from
the east into the afternoon and evening. Seas from 2 to 4 feet.

Outlook...

Thursday...Sub-advisory conditions with easterly winds from 10
to 15 knots. Seas generally from 2 to 4 feet Wednesday and 2 to
3 feet Thursday.

Friday and Saturday...Sub-advisory conditions with south to
southeasterly winds from 10 to 15 knots and a few gusts possibly
approaching 20 knots in the afternoon. Seas ranging from 2 to 3
feet.

Rip Currents... Increased southerly winds and waves of 4 to 5
feet, coupled with an underlying long period swell (related to
Claudette) will result in a moderate risk for the formation of
dangerous rip currents today and Wednesday. Although the long
period swell is not expected to become the dominant swell, and
winds should shift to an off shore northwesterly direction later
this morning and afternoon.
