.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will push into the region tonight and then become
stationary over the Mid-Atlantic on Tuesday. The remnants of
Ida will ride along that front and pass through the region
Wednesday and Wednesday night, departing on Thursday. High
pressure builds in for the end of the week and the first half of
the weekend. Another front approaches the area Sunday into
Monday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...

A cold front is slowly working its way towards the region this
afternoon as its parent low pressure tracks far to our northwest
over Canada. Ahead of it, a warm and muggy day has developed with
temperatures rising well into the 80s and dew points in the low 70s.
This has helped plenty of instability to build, and with the front
approaching, scattered convection has developed. This has mainly
been to our west, but there have been a few showers and isolated
thunderstorms over our area also, and with time, the focus will
continue to shift east. Convective activity through the evening will
be very much spotty in nature. Instability is decent, but shear is
weak, and with the low pressure center so far northwest, lift is
also weak. For those reasons, the severe weather potential is low,
though cannot rule out some gusty winds with the strongest cells.
The hydro risk also looks minimal today. Cell motions will not be
rapid, but they will be progressive enough, and perpendicular enough
to the frontal boundary, to limit the heavy rain risk. Since the
front remains to our west, activity could drag on pretty well into
the evening, but once daytime heating is lost, coverage and
intensity should gradually diminish. PoPs are in the chc range due
to the expected hit or miss coverage.

Overnight, the cold front will continue to slowly work
southeastward, making it through at least part of the area. The
coverage of any showers should continue to drop off, but can't rule
out a stray shower through most of the night. It will remain muggy
with lows only falling to the upper 60s and low 70s. Some patchy fog
is possible, but it does not look like a repeat of the more
widespread dense fog we had this morning. Mid-level clouds should be
extensive enough, and winds may stay up just enough, to keep fog
coverage as patchy at best, mainly in the typically prone spots.

For Tuesday, the front continues to slow down as it moves through,
and is likely to more or less stall across our southern zones. It
may even begin to push back north a bit by later in the day on
Tuesday. Mainly dry weather is expected Tuesday thanks to the front
being further south. It should be slightly cooler and less humid
overall as well. The warmth and humidity will remain greater over
Delmarva and southern New Jersey, closer to the front. This will
also contribute to a scattered shower or storm threat in our
southern zones, but even in those areas, the coverage looks spotty
at best.

Rainfall associated with the remnants of Ida will likely begin to
overspread the region on Tuesday night, especially late. However,
any impacts on Tuesday night should be minimal, and that system will
be covered in depth in the Short Term.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...

Summary: Heavy rainfall and flooding likely from Wednesday
afternoon into Thursday morning in association with the
remnants of Ida.

Overview: The remnant circulation of Ida will continue to lift
northward into into the Applachians on Wednesday, and will
likely at least partially phase with a northern stream shortwave
diving southward from the west as it does so. The system will
undergo extratropical transition as this happens, and may begin
to restrengthen somewhat as it comes to lie in the right
entrance region of a seasonably strong (130-150kt) UL jet over
the St.Lawrence valley. These ingredients will set the stage
for a heavy rainfall event over at least portions of our area as
rich tropical moisture (PWATS > 2.25 inches) interacts with
increasing synoptic lift associated with the jet and baroclinic
forcing.

Timing: Fairly good consensus that the heaviest and steadiest
precipitation will occur Wednesday evening through Thursday
morning. Can't rule out some storms during the day on Wednesday,
both of the diurnally-driven variety in the south and then also
along far western portions of our area as lead shortwave energy
rides along the stalled front from Tuesday. With the High
Pressure building in from the west and much drier air coming in
behind Ida, suspect precip will largely come to an end Thursday
morning but can't rule out it lingering near the coast into the
afternoon.

Rainfall accumulations: Given the expectations that the
circulation of Ida will remain somewhat robust (and not
deamplify enough to largely outrun the northern wave, like the
Canadian suggests), this would favor the northern half of our
area for the heaviest precipitation (closer to the better
synoptic forcing). Consequently there is the potential for
widespread 3-5 inch totals N&W of I-95, with even higher
amounts possible in localized areas. Widespread rainfall should
generally decrease further S&E with 2-4 inches expected around
I-95, and then down to 1-2 in southern Delmarva and far southern
NJ. The accumulation gradient could even be tighter if the
system amplifies to the extent the Euro depicts. The big
uncertainty with southern areas is if convective precipitation
can develop in the warm sector, as although the coverage may be
more limited some prodigious amounts could be possible given the
moisture available. Consequently did expand the Flash Flood
Watch to include southern Delmarva but the threat here is more
conditional than further north.

Severe potential: Given the current track there remains some
isolated tornado potential and severe wind gust potential,
generally S&E of I-95. Relatively strong SWrly wind fields
aloft will ride overtop initially backed low-lvl flow to create
a zone of enhanced 0-1km and 0-3km SRH near the vicinity of the
warm front. Although instability won't be too impressive,
500-1000 J/kg of MLCAPE will be sufficient to support rotating
updrafts given the shear profiles. The north-westward extent of
the severe threat area remains uncertain given the
uncertainties with the track of Ida's circulation/frontal
structure.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...

High Pressure will build into the area Friday through at least
Saturday, with rather pleasant and dry weather expected as a
result. Dewpoints will drop well into the 50s, high
temperatures will remain largely in the 70s, and lows should dip
down into the 50s. By Sunday/Monday the High looks to slide
offshore with return flow developing and increasing moisture.
An approaching Canadian low/cold front will result in any least
some precip chances for the period, but uncertainty remains
high.

.AVIATION /19Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.

Through this evening... Prevailing VFR. Scattered showers and tstms
are possible in all areas across the region, but they will tend to
be quite hit or miss with coverage not very widespread. Southwest
wind 5 to 10 kt. High confidence overall, but which terminals, if
any, are directly impacted by showers and storms will come down more
to chance.

Later tonight... Showers and tstms will gradually decrease in
coverage, and mainly VFR conditions are expected. Some patchy fog
later tonight may bring localized VSBY restrictions, but fog should
not be nearly as dense or widespread as on Monday morning. Winds
mostly light and variable, but there should be a general
trend for a shift from southwest to northwest. Moderate confidence.

Tuesday... Mainly VFR. An isolated shower or tstm is possible mainly
over far southern New Jersey and Delmarva. Winds mostly northwest at
5 to 8 kt, but may be light and variable at times, and a southerly
component may develop near the coast in the afternoon. High
confidence.

Outlook...

Tuesday night... Initially, VFR. Rain may begin to overspread the
area from southwest to northeast late in the night, though most of
the night will probably stay VFR. Winds light and variable. Moderate
confidence.

Wednesday through Thursday...Extended periods of sub- VFR with
+RA and TSRA possible particularly Wednesday night into
Thursday morning. Winds NE 10-15 kt with gusts to 20 kt on
Wednesday, Wind directions then become variable as low pressure
passes Wednesday night but may be gusty at times. NNW winds on
Thursday 10-15kts with gusts 20-25kts. Overall, moderate
confidence.

Friday/Saturday...VFR with W-NW winds 5-10kts. High confidence.

.MARINE...

Through Tuesday night... Sub-SCA conditions are expected. Scattered
showers and tstms possible late this afternoon through this evening,
and again on Tuesday afternoon. Southwest winds 10 to 15 kt through
most of tonight shifting to northwest late tonight and into Tuesday,
then back to southwest later Tuesday. Winds Tuesday may be light and
variable at times. Seas 2 to 3 ft.

Outlook...

Wednesday... Generally sub-SCA conditions through the day,
although winds and seas may begin to increase in the afternoon.

Wednesday night through Thursday night... SCA winds and seas
look likely with a chance of showers/thunderstorms particularly
Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Some of these storms
could produce strong winds, and even isolated waterspouts. An
outside shot at gales, but confidence in this is low. Seas
peaking 6-8ft on Thursday.

Friday/Saturday... Lingering 5ft seas possible but otherwise
conditions should drop below SCA criteria.
