* At 1123 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain. Minor flooding
is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Up
to 0.5 inches of rain have fallen.
* Although rain rates are only expected to be around one quarter to
one half of an inch per hour, the ground is already saturated from
the heavy rain that occurred Monday night and Tuesday morning. Any
additional rain tonight will quickly become runoff and could lead
to minor flooding within the advisory area.
* Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Toms River, New Brunswick, Perth Amboy, Long Branch, Asbury Park,
Sandy Hook, Edison, Lakewood, Middletown, Old Bridge, Jackson, and

.SYNOPSIS...
A coastal low will continue to lift towards southern New
England into tonight, retrograding counterclockwise off the
coast in the process. In the wake of the coastal low, high
pressure is expected to briefly build in over our region on
Thursday, before another low pressure system lifts from the
southern Mississippi Valley into the northeastern U.S. Friday
into Saturday. High pressure is expected to build into the
region Sunday and Monday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Evening Update...
With this update, made some adjustments to PoPs based on radar
and hi res model trends, and also adjusted temps and dew points
as observations have been been running cooler and drier than
forecast. Rain is starting to pivot back into the area from
northwest to southeast. It will continue to make progress
southeast, but should mostly be light in intensity and won't
make it all the way through the area. Some of the western and
southern zones should stay mostly dry tonight. Also made some
adjustments to the winds through Wednesday, mainly bumping up
the gusts by several miles per hour for most of late tonight and
Wednesday. Was tempted to issue a Wind Advisory mainly for
areas such as Middlesex, Monmouth, and Ocean Counties where some
gusts around 45 mph are possible especially near the coast
early Wednesday. But some of the latest trends are keeping the
low center just a tad further east, and given it is marginal
anyways, prefer to hold off. Elsewhere, breezy conditions are
likely especially by late tonight and Wednesday morning, but
well below advisory levels.
Previous discussion follows...
Rain is wrapping around the offshore coastal low and starting
to fill back in across the Mid-Atlantic region. This area of
rain is much less robust than the rain that occurred Tuesday
night, and while there could still be pockets of moderate to
heavy rain this evening, the majority of it will be lighter in
nature. Additional rainfall amounts will generally be around
0.50" or less, though some places may see up to an inch. A
robust band of rain across Long Island may rotate back through
portions of eastern and central New Jersey later this evening.
We will need to watch this area in particular as those places
were harder hit with 3-5" of rain overnight into this morning.
As the coastal low deepens, the pressure gradient will tighten
up over our area and winds will respond in kind, especially
along the immediate coast and nearby inland areas. Winds will be
around 20 to 30 mph with some gusts up around 40 to 45 mph.
With some areas having had a good deal of rain in the past 24
hours, the ground is quite saturated. Add in the fact that many
trees still have their leaves and that could translate into some
trees or limbs coming down in sub-advisory winds. Winds should
start to drop some on wednesday as the low-level jet moves past
the region.
As far as temperatures go, it is quite mild outside with very
seasonable temperatures. With the cloud cover expected to remain
through much of the night, overnight lows will likely remain on
the warm side and in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Clouds start
to clear on Wednesday (though it may be later in the day for
eastern areas). Daytime highs look to reach back into the upper
50s to mid 60s across the forecast area.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...
Wednesday night through Thursday looks to be a fairly quiet
period across the region and the only real break between
systems.
Clearing overnight Wednesday will allow for temperatures to
fall into the 40s, making for a crisp fall night. It may be
breezy especially during the early evening but winds should
really drop off across the area overnight.
Thursday we will see the clouds return in advance of the next
system. Winds turn more to the north and northeast and
temperatures will be slightly cooler than they were on
Wednesday.
As we head into Thursday night, we will start to see
precipitation working its way back into the area from west to
east as low pressure over the Tennessee Valley starts to push
towards our area.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
An area of low pressure centered near the WV/VA border is
expected to be the main weather influence for the area Friday as
a swath of heavy rain pivots around the low and moves through
the area. The precipitation looks to continue into the early
morning hours Saturday. Total amounts of precipitation look to
be the highest across southern NJ and southward with up to
around an inch possible. Rainfall amounts should diminish
northward with about .50 inches possible across the Poconos. The
aforementioned low looks to move towards the northeast on
Saturday with the associated dynamics. Some showers are still
likely for Saturday, but with much lower amounts than Friday. An
improving trend is expected to start over the area later
Saturday as the trough with the area of low pressure moves to
the east and winds shift around to the northwest. More sunshine
is anticipated on Sunday as well with drier air. Monday looks to
be a nice, fall day with a good deal of sunshine.
High temperatures look to remain about 5 degrees above normal
throughout the period with lows averaging about 5-10 degrees
above normal.

.AVIATION /01Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
The following discussion is for KPHL, KPNE, KTTN, KABE, KRDG,
KILG, KMIV, KACY and surrounding areas.
Tonight... Mainly MVFR. Brief and localized IFR is possible
mainly near and north of PHL. Rain and showers will rotate
southward, back into the region, likely affecting all of the
terminals with mainly light intensity rain for a few hours. Rain
should mostly depart near or before daybreak. Winds mainly from
the northwest at 10 to 15 kt with gusts of 20 to 25 kt, but
varying quite a bit. Areas closest to the coast will tend to see
the highest winds, and winds may decrease somewhat in the late
evening before increasing again before daybreak. Moderate
confidence overall.
Wednesday... For the morning, mainly MVFR with BKN to OVC CIGs
of around 2000 feet. Improvement to VFR is expected from west to
east as the day progresses, though areas near the coast may
remain MVFR for much of the day. Winds north-northwest at 10 to
20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt, strongest in the morning and
gradually decreasing in the afternoon. Winds could be a little
stronger near the coast and lighter towards RDG and ABE.
Moderate confidence.
Outlook...
Wednesday night...VFR conditions expected with northerly winds
from 5 to 10 knots. High confidence.
Thursday and Thursday night...VFR. East-northeasterly winds
from 5 to 10 knots. High confidence.
Friday and Friday night...MVFR to even IFR conditions at times
as rain moves into the region along a warm front. Easterly winds
from 10 to 15 knots with gusts from 20 to 25 knots. Moderate
confidence in overall pattern, lower confidence on finer details
and timing.
Saturday and Saturday night...Sub-VFR conditions possible,
especially in the morning as rain showers slowly move out of the
region. Southeasterly winds turning southwesterly from 5 to 10
knots with gusts to 20 knots. Moderate confidence.

.MARINE...
A Gale Warning remains in effect for the Atlantic coastal
waters and Delaware Bay. A couple hours of gusts to near storm
force are likely for the central and northern New Jersey coastal
waters late tonight and early Wednesday. The wind direction
will be northwesterly tonight then almost due northerly for most
of Wednesday. Wind speeds will peak late tonight and Wednesday
morning before gradually decreasing Wednesday afternoon,
eventually to below gale force. Seas 7 to 11 ft. Rain likely
tonight.
Outlook...
Wednesday night though Saturday...elevated seas may continue on
the coastal waters for much, if not all of this period. Wind
gusts should subside Wednesday night, and generally stay below
25 kt on the waters for most of this period, with the exception
of Thursday night into Friday, when easterly winds 25 to 30 kt
will be possible. There remains a small chance for gale force
gusts, but think this appears to be less likely.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Complex low pressure is expected to meander off southeastern
New England and Long Island overnight and Wednesday before
drifting farther out to sea. Another low is forecast to approach
from the west and southwest late in the week.
The west to northwest wind this evening is anticipated to shift
to the north tonight. The wind should then veer gradually to
the northeast and east during the period from Wednesday into
Friday. The expected pattern through the end of the work week
will allow little opportunity for water to drain away from the
coast. As a result, we will continue to monitor for the
possibility of minor flooding in the tidal areas of New Jersey
and Delaware, and along Delaware Bay. Fortunately, the
astronomical tides associated with the last quarter moon will
work in our favor. It will take a 2 foot departure at the midday
high tides, and a 3 foot departure at the overnight high tides
to cause minor flooding.
For now, we have issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for Atlantic
County, Cape May County, and Sussex County DE to cover the
midday high tide on Wednesday. Only spotty minor flooding is
expected along the coasts of Ocean County and Monmouth County
with that high tide. Additional advisories are quite possible as
we go through the end of the week.
With the persistent nature of the onshore flow, we may even see some
minor flooding on the tidal Delaware River and on the upper eastern
shore of Chesapeake Bay as we get into Thursday and Friday.
