.SYNOPSIS...
Waves of low pressure impact the weather through Monday, followed
by high pressure briefly returning on Tuesday. A slow moving
frontal system may impact the region mid to late next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Bumped chances of rain to 100 percent into early afternoon as
another frontal waves passes to the south and east of the area.
It may for time stop (or drizzle) in the afternoon ahead of the
next wave this evening. Also, adjusted highs down a few degrees
based on latest guidance and current obs/ trends. Now looking
for highs in the upper 40s to the lower 50s.

Record low maximum temperatures are forecast to occur for most
of the official climate sites around the area. See the climate
section below for more details.

A broad area of low pressure remains nearby during the period as a
longwave trough digs through the Ohio Valley. Embedded shortwave
lift along the periphery of this trough interacts with some moisture
convergence with a subtle inverted surface trough. This maintains
the likelihood of rain through around mid-afternoon. Chances of rain
generally lower during the daytime hours thereafter, however coastal
areas will have better chances of seeing additional rainfall.

For tonight, the longwave trough to the west begins to become
more negatively tilted with a closed 500 mb low developing. This
will help generate a surface low near the Mid-Atlantic coast.
Meanwhile, closer to here, increasing isentropic lift and
frontogenetic forcing push in from the south. This will help
maintain likely PoPs for coastal areas with still a chance of
showers NW of the city. Low temperatures fall into the 40s for
most locations, but no records are expected to be broken.

&&

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
The 500 mb low/trough lifts INVOF the Mid-Atlantic on Sunday. The
surface low to our south approaches, eventually shifting through
late at night into early Monday morning. Isentropic and shortwave
lift strengthen over us, continuing likely PoPs through the day. We
then get some synoptic-scale lift Sunday night as the right-rear
quadrant of an upper jet streak begins to shift through. This
combined with forcing near the low center entering the forecast area
will sustain a good chance of rain through at least the evening
hours. Mid-levels then dry out thereafter, so light rain and drizzle
possible for the overnight hours into Monday morning. The trough
axis aloft and surface low will be to our east by Monday afternoon.
We dry out, however it may be tough to scour out a lot of the cloud
cover with a fairly weak westerly flow and lingering 850-900 mb
moisture. Will go with a mostly cloudy to partly sunny forecast for the
afternoon.

Temperatures remain below normal for the period, with highs Sunday
only in the 50s again for the most part, but at least a few degrees
warmer than today. Record low maximum temperatures may occur
again on Sunday. Highs on Monday from the mid 60s to around 70.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
High briefly returns on Tuesday to keep us dry, then an
approaching warm front brings a chance of an afternoon shower on
Wednesday or Wednesday night. There is some question as to the
timing of this front with the faster GFS lifting it across area
on Wednesday while the ECMWF lifts it across the area Wednesday
night into Thursday. Once the warm front lifts to the north, the
region will lie between western Atlantic high pressure and yet
another longwave trough and associated low pressure and cold
front to our west. The trends are indicating both Atlantic and
Gulf of Mexico moisture transport will get involved. The axis of
the deepest moisture along with the timing and strength of both
the longwave trough and western Atlantic ridge will ultimately
play a role in determining the days with the highest probability
of rain. For now, have capped PoPs at high chance for the end
of the week owing to the uncertainty. High temperatures Tuesday
through the end of the week are expected to be near to slightly
above normal.

.AVIATION /15Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Rain showers will continue through the TAF period as waves of
low pressure affect the region.

East winds of 10-15 kt with 20 to 25 kt are expected through
much of the TAF period for the metro terminals.

Generally MVFR to IFR conditions through the TAF period. The IFR
conditions will likely occur during periods of more steady rain.

to SE-S along the coast as low pressure tracks overhead or
nearby/
.Monday...Lingering rain with MVFR to IFR possible. Improvement
and more dry conditions forecast for late day into Monday night.

.Wednesday...Possible MVFR with a chance of rain showers.

.MARINE...
Based on latest buoy observations, raised seas on the ocean to
9 to 12 today/

Gale conditions across all waters to start, then only the ocean
zones are expected to continue with gale force gusts this afternoon
and tonight. The remaining waters will see at least advisory level
conditions, and there is a chance that the gale warning may need to
be extended over the eastern Sound and the eastern Bays for a few
hours longer into this afternoon.

Winds will diminish somewhat on Sunday, but will remain in SCA
range, and could be close to gales on the ocean. Seas remain
elevated on the ocean through Monday morning and SCA conditions
should subside by Monday afternoon.

Conditions on all waters will be below advisory criteria Tuesday
into Wednesday with a weak pressure gradient in place.

.HYDROLOGY...
An additional 1.50 to 2.50 inches of rainfall is expected today
through Monday morning with the higher amounts generally east
of NYC. Some nuisance flooding in low lying and poor drainage
areas is possible, mainly during Sunday.

&&

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
While astronomical tides are lower with the late morning/early
afternoon high tide today, isolated minor coastal impacts are
possible along the vulnerable locations along the south shore back
bays. Have decided to leave the advisory here unchanged and
mention the daytime threat of isolated flooding.

Tonight's high tide should bring widespread minor flooding impacts
across the south shore back bays due to persistent NE flow and
potential tidal piling. A coastal flood advisory for the south shore
back bays remains in effect for tonight, as well as along lower NY
harbor. It also remains in effect for portions of the Western Sound
along the SW CT and southern Westchester shoreline, however there's
a chance that tides fall short of minor benchmarks for most of the
area. A statement has been added for the LI Sound coastline of
the Bronx, Queens and Nassau counties based on what occurred
early this morning with a NE wind flow. Will allow day shift to
monitor trends and adjust headlines as needed. Elsewhere, tide
levels should remain below minor benchmarks today and tonight.

Easterly swells will likely result in a sweep of 5 to 7 ft surf
today - just short of high surf advisory criteria, however still
causing some minor beach erosion issues. Dune impacts look
localized and limited to minor.

There is a high risk of rip currents at Atlantic Ocean Beaches
through Sunday.
