.SYNOPSIS...Slight cooling will begin on Friday as high pressure
over the region weakens followed by more pronounced cooling this
upcoming weekend as the marine layer deepens and onshore flow
increases. Generally dry weather conditions will also persist into
next week as high pressure builds back over the region.
&
.DISCUSSION...as of 01:16 PM PDT Thursday...Temperatures at the
coast are a few to several degrees cooler this afternoon as a
shallow marine layer has become better established. Meanwhile,
interior locations are near if not a few degrees warmer than
yesterday as a ridge of high pressure noses inland across central
California. This ridge will continue to shift southward and
flatten on Friday allowing for the slight cooling trend to extend
a bit more inland. With this, also expecting more coastal stratus
and/or fog to expand inland into adjacent valleys tonight into
Friday morning.
The marine layer will continue to deepen Friday night into Saturday
morning as an upper level trough approaches the Pacific Northwest
and northern California. This pattern will result in a more
pronounced cooling trend across the interior this upcoming weekend
as onshore flow and cloud cover increases. Thus, cannot rule out
some patchy coastal drizzle as well in response to the deepening
marine layer. However, widespread precipitation is unlikely. Also
expecting breezy winds near the coast and in the hills this weekend.
Daytime temperatures will peak in upper 50s to lower 60s near the
coast and low to mid 70s across the interior. A few of the region's
warmer interior locations may still approach the 80 deg F mark
especially where there are breaks in cloud cover.
Forecast ensembles are in good agreement with high pressure
rebuilding back over the region for much of next week. This will
result in dry and seasonably warm weather for much of the week. Some
cooling will be possible late next week as yet another trough
potentially drops into northern California.

.AVIATION...As of 10:41 AM PDT Thursday...For the 18Z TAFs.
Satellite imagery shows stratus slowly moving southward along the
coast with mostly clear skies inland. VFR conditions expected
through this evening before low clouds possible for coastal and
Bay Area terminals early tomorrow morning. Breezy onshore winds
this afternoon near the coast and through coastal gaps,
particularly around KSFO.
Vicinity of KSFO...VFR. Low clouds along the coast and over the
western end of the SF Peninsula. At this time, not expecting these
to impact the terminal. Breezy W/NW winds throughout the day
increasing this afternoon with gusts around 25 kt possible. May
see some low clouds impact visuals early tomorrow morning, but
confidence is low.
SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals...VFR through this evening before low
clouds return overnight tonight. Slight chance again early
tomorrow morning of patchy fog as well. W/NW winds this afternoon
around 10-15 kt.

.MARINE...as of 09:10 AM PDT Thursday...Generally light to
locally moderate northwest winds across the coastal waters today.
Breezy conditions to develop in the afternoon along coastal jets
south of Point Arena, Pigeon Point, and Point Sur. Northwest winds
will then increase tomorrow night and into Saturday with the
strongest winds still along the inner waters due to coastal jets.
Steep wind driven swell will create hazardous conditions for small
vessels. Mixed swell with light northwest and southerly swells.
