.SYNOPSIS...Weak, isolated showers mainly over the ocean are still
passing through the region and will decrease through the afternoon.
Clearing skies will help decrease temperatures and provide the
opportunity for frost accumulation in sheltered interior locations
overnight and into Sunday morning. Sunday begins a warming and
drying trend, as temperatures in the 70s are in the outlook for
midweek.

.DISCUSSION...as of 01:31 PM PDT Saturday...Mostly sunny skies
surround the Bay Area and the Central Coast on this Saturday
afternoon, and yet the key word is...mostly. There is a dusting of
strato-cu around the region and especially over the ocean. While it
may be weak, and mostly confined over the ocean, there still enough
returns on radar to keep it in precip mode and extend PoPs into the
afternoon. But the showers that form from these clouds will be light
at best, and that is assuming they make it to the ground. And while
a small cell this morning passed over Half Moon Bay and dropped
small hail with some its rain, most of these remaining clouds will
have little to no impact to anyone and continue to decrease through
the day.
Decreasing skies are expected into the night, with clearing over
parts of the North Bay and Monterey Bays. As temperatures cool, the
clearer skies will decrease temperatures into the 30s. Sheltered
interior locations will flirt at or below freezing. With the recent
rains providing additional moisture, frost accumulation is possible.
Therefore, A Frost Advisory was issued for the North Bay Interior
Valleys and the Southern Salinas Valley. Sensitive plants and crops
may be at risk in these conditions.
Temperatures will warm on Sunday afternoon as the upper level trough
moves over the intermountain west and a positively tilted ridge
builds higher pressure into next week. As the ridge builds winds
will shift offshore and increase. Strongest winds still look to be
at higher elevations. With gusts between 25 to 30 mph and the
addition of recent rains keep an impact risk very low.
That high pressure dominates the early working, increasing
temperatures steadily into the low 70s for interior locations on
Tuesday and low to mid 70s on Wednesday. Ensemble guidance brings
the next upper level trough into the Pacific Northwest Wednesday
night and down toward the Central Valley on Thursday. However,
ensembles are keeping its movement east of us and mainly heading
toward the Sierra. At this time, the only impact is a fresh northern
air mas to reduce temperatures slightly around area. Longer range
guidance as temperatures rebounding next week and keeping the Bay
Area dry.

.AVIATION...as of 10:50 AM PDT Saturday...For the 18Z TAFs. VFR.
FEW/SCT clouds between 2,500 - 6,000 ft in the moist northwest
flow over the region likely to persist through the afternoon.
This also has produced isolated showers over the region this
morning, yet they are unlikely to have a major impact on
terminals through the day. Onshore flow will increase region-wide
this afternoon and persist into the evening before diminishing
overnight. VFR likely to continue through Sunday morning with the
exception of lowering ceilings/visibilities possible around
sunrise over North Bay terminals. However, confidence of
occurrence is low.
Vicinity of KSFO...VFR. FEW/SCT clouds to linger through the
afternoon with increasing onshore winds to 12-15 kt.
SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals...VFR. FEW/SCT clouds to linger into the
afternoon and potentially through Sunday morning. Onshore winds
increase this afternoon to around 12-15 kt before diminishing this
evening.

.MARINE...as of 08:53 AM PDT Saturday...High pressure over the
eastern Pacific will result in gusty northwest winds across the
coastal waters. Northwest winds will result in locally steep
fresh wind waves. A moderate period west- northwest swell will
subside today.
