.SYNOPSIS...A weak frontal system will bring rain chances to the
region late this evening into Friday, yet widespread rainfall will
likely be limited to north of the Golden Gate. While lingering
showers will be possible Friday night into Saturday morning, dry
weather returns for the upcoming weekend along with a warming trend
into early next week.

.DISCUSSION...as of 02:01 PM PST Thursday...Dry weather
conditions prevail over the region early this afternoon ahead of
an approaching frontal boundary brining rain to northern
California. Meanwhile, clouds have increased over the North Bay
with temperatures generally in the mid 50s to lower 60s with
mostly sunny sky conditions prevail over the Central Coast. This
abundant sunshine and ridge of high pressure aloft has brought
mid/upper 60s to the South Bay down into the Central coast this
afternoon.
Rain chances will increase over coastal the North Bay late this
evening and across the remainder of the Bay Area early Friday morning
as the frontal boundary drops southward across the region. Thus,
look for wet, slick roadways over much of the greater San Francisco
Bay Area during the early morning commute on Friday. The boundary is
then forecast to weaken and/or dissipate as it approaches the Santa
Cruz Mountains and remainder of the Central Coast after sunrise.
Thus, only expecting very light measurable rainfall if any at all
over much of this region. Lingering rain showers are appearing more
likely Friday night into early Saturday morning as the main
mid/upper level trough swings inland to our north. However,
additional rainfall will be minimal. Rainfall will be greatest over
the North Bay where between 0.10" to 0.25" is likely for most with
0.25" to 0.75" in the coastal hills and higher terrain. Meanwhile,
San Francisco and adjacent areas may pick up between 0.10" to 0.20"
with less than 0.10" in the South Bay.
Breezy to locally gusty onshore winds will develop in wake of the
trough passing inland Friday night into Saturday as well. This will
likely result in wind gust of 35 to 45 mph in the hills and around
25 to 35 mph near the coast. With this and cold air advection aloft,
Saturday will cool and brisk with afternoon temperatures only in the
upper 50s to near 60.
A drying trend will also begin Saturday with warming beginning on
Sunday as high pressure builds inland from the eastern Pacific. By
early next week, look for widespread 60s at the coast to lower 70s
inland. These are a good 5 to 10 degrees above seasonal averages
both Monday and Tuesday. The next weather feature will be a
mid/upper level trough dropping across the Intermountain West which
will likely result in breezy offshore winds, especially in the
hills, ridges and peaks. Generally speaking, the ensembles maintain
dry weather conditions through most of next week with temperatures
near seasonal averages.

.AVIATION...as of 4:00 PM PST Thursday...For the 00Z TAFs. VFR
conditions persist with light winds and high clouds. A weak front
currently to the north will gradually bring lowering cigs and
eventually light rain to the northern terminals starting Thursday
night near 06Z. -RA will dissipate as it moves south of KSJC, so
VCSH for KSNS/KMRY towards the end of the period. Winds will be
light for the period since this is a weak FROPA. Winds S/SE ahead
of the boundary, turning NW towards the end of the period.
Vicinity of KSFO...VFR into tonight. Light rain should move in
just after 06Z. Wet runways are possible for the Friday AM rush
with southeast winds. Cigs will remain low through 18Z, with
improvement after. Winds will remain lighter, with SW ahead of
FROPA turning NW behind.
SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals...VFR prevailing through the period. Light
W/SW winds AOB 10kts through 16Z then winds veer NW. Cigs will
start to lower around 16Z, but should remain VFR as most of the -RA
will die before reaching terminals.

.MARINE...as of 09:40 AM PST Thursday...A weaker frontal system
will pass through the waters later tonight. Winds will be weak and
southerly ahead of this system today, but will quickly switch back
to northwest winds early tomorrow morning. Scattered showers and
isolated wind gusts will be possible as the front passes early
tomorrow morning, however the front will continue to weaken as it
moves south across the waters. A moderate northwest swell
persists through Friday and will increase over the weekend. Winds
will increase this weekend as well, creating a potential for
hazardous seas for smaller vessels Saturday.
