.SYNOPSIS...High pressure persists over the region which will warm
temperatures and bring periods of offshore winds. Despite
unsettled weather to our north, dry weather should prevail across
our area through the next week. Expect above normal temperatures
initially, before a slight cooling brings temperatures closer to
normal around midweek and Thanksgiving. May see a bit of morning frost
in some valleys midweek.

.DISCUSSION...as of 08:48 AM PST Sunday...What a different
satellite picture this morning compared to the last few morning.
The morning visible satellite shows much less clouds and fog
across the region. The only notable areas of fog are showing up in
the Delta/far East Bay and southern Salinas Valley. What less
clouds/fog? Two words - offshore flow. High pressure over the
interior and lower pressure along the has resulted in an offshore
pressure gradient. SFO-WMC gradient has hovered around - 10-13mb,
which is moderate. The offshore gradient has led to wind gusts of
over 50 mph in the hills/mts. Winds have eased a little over the
last few hours, but gusts of 20-40 mph are still occuring. The
offshore flow is also a drying wind and that's why clouds/fog are
less today.

So for the rest of today - it will be sunny day across the Bay
Area with mild temperatures. Hopefully you can get outside and
enjoy it.

.PREV DISCUSSION...as of 03:44 AM PST Sunday...It's a fairly clear
night out there as nighttime satellite imagery shows very few low
clouds around the Bay Area and Central CA. Now that we're in an
offshore flow pattern coupled with the drier air from high
pressure aloft, it's very unlikely that we'll see any fog form
during these early morning hours. However, without the clouds
trapping any surface heat radiation, folks should notice that it
feels much cooler this morning. Many of our sites are running 5-12
degrees colder than 24 hours ago.

The WMC-SFO offshore gradient has been ranging between 9-11 mb
since yesterday evening. Strongest gusts remain limited to the
higher terrain, especially in the typical locations like Mt.
Diablo and Mt. St. Helena where gusts have been between 45-60
mph. Have seen a few gusts over ridge tops that measured between
60-65 mph, but those have been rare. Both the NAM and GFS suggest
the offshore gradient from WMC-SFO should hover around 10 mb
through much of the morning then gradually taper off by this
evening. Remember, the gusty offshore winds will remain limited
to higher terrain and should not be impactful for lower
elevations/valleys.

Temperatures today should see a nice nudge upward as the airmass
aloft warms up due to the high pressure/offshore flow. The
majority of our CWA should have above normal highs in the mid 60s
to mid 70s. Not much change for Monday except that winds will be
lighter across the higher terrain. By Tuesday, the high pressure
weakens as a system moves into the Pacific NW. While the
precipitation will stay well north of our region, we will see a
cooling effect putting our highs closer to normal in the upper 50s
to mid 60s and onshore flow returns. One thing to note is that
early morning lows on Wednesday could have some of our valleys
flirting with the possibility of some frost. As of now, we've got
lows Wed morning ranging mid 30s to mid 40s, coldest in the
interior valleys.

From Wednesday afternoon to the end of the week, high pressure
will rebuild over the region allowing us to get back into a
slightly warmer trend that reaches back into the 70s. Meanwhile,
there will be an active storm track continuing to impact the Pac
NW. It's not until the end of this month that models are hinting
at a more organized frontal system actually tracking into Central
and Northern CA...however, that's far enough out in the future
that confidence isn't very high.

.AVIATION...as of 9:37 AM PST Sunday...For the 18z TAFs.
LIFR/MVFR cigs in the interior North Bay terminals (KAPC) has
mixed out this morning as offshore flow continues to dry out the
air mass. Are on track for widespread VFR today at all the
terminals with light winds at the surface. Low/Mid-level flow has
subsided in intensity mid-morning so have removed LLWS for the
North and East Bay terminals but will continue to observe
localized LLWS along the coast as the peak of the offshore flow
exits the region. Expect breezy conditions at some of the coastal
and bay terminals (6-12kts) before winds gradually drop off in the
evening and through the overnight. Another chance for some
localized low cigs will be possible for portions of the interior
North Bay (KAPC) but otherwise looking like the dry air mass will
help to impede any low cigs from developing elsewhere through the
end of the TAF period.

Vicinity of KSFO...VFR with light surface winds and a diminishing
potential for LLWS at KOAK. Winds above the surface have started
to subside but remain out of the northeast as the peak of the
offshore flow exits the vicinities of KOAK/KSFO. VFR expected
through the TAF period as dry air sits overhead and mixes to the
lower levels. E/NE winds up to 10 kts expected today but otherwise
will observe light winds tonight and through tomorrow morning.

KSFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.

Monterey Bay...VFR with E/SE winds 5 to 15 kts into the morning,
particularly in the Northern Salinas Valley (KSNS). N/NW winds 5
to 10 knots late this afternoon and evening as offshore flow
leaves the Bay. Limited moisture will result in cigs struggling to
make a return Sunday night into Monday morning. Have kept at VFR
for the rest of the TAF period.

.MARINE...as of 09:23 AM PST Sunday...Winds are currently light,
but northeasterly winds will become gusty along the immediate
coastline later this morning, particularly through the Golden Gate
gap and Half Moon Bay. These winds will peak today along the
central coastal waters before diminishing this evening. The newly
arrived moderate period northwest swell will continue to track
into our waters through next week.
