.SYNOPSIS...Lingering rain showers will continue through early
afternoon with seasonably cool temperatures. A warming and drying
trend will then occur through the remainder of the week and into
the upcoming weekend.
&&
.DISCUSSION...as of 09:24 AM PST Tuesday...Heavy rain has
dissipated or moved east over the Sierra while light showers
linger over our area, as observed on local radar. Minor
accumulations expected through the morning as a cold front just
offshore pushes through the region. The AR event as a whole did
not have widespread or major impacts. No flood hazard products
were issued. Scattered reports of road flooding were noted by CA
Highway Patrol, and a few social media reports of downed
trees/powerlines were noted earlier this morning. Also received a
call from Monterey OEM about mudflow on the River Fire burn scar.
A bit surprising since area gauges recorded rainfall rates well
below threshold levels, and 12-hr accumulations were only in the
0.5"-0.75" range. This will be investigated further of course, and
on-site evidence will be received from local authorities. Also
keeping an eye on Green Valley Creek in Sonoma County, with the
rain gauge there showing it at minor flood stage.
Current rain totals are highest in coastal North Bay, as
expected, with Mt. Tam the winner at 3.68", but other coastal
sites topped out around 2"-2.5". Downtown SF/Oak range
0.75"-1.0", much lower amounts in rain shadowed areas of South Bay
(<.10"), Santa Cruz/N. Monterey Bay ~1", southern Monterey Bay
0.25"-0.75", 1"-2" Santa Lucia range, and <.10" southern Salinas
Valley. Winds have also largely settled down, and should not be
much of a factor today, just veering to the west- northwest this
afternoon. Otherwise, forecast remains on track for today, with
gradual clearing and cool temperatures. Please see previous

.PREV DISCUSSION...as of 03:01 AM PST Tuesday...Widespread rain
continues over the region early this morning with the main plume
of atmospheric moisture advecting inland over the Central Coast.
Additionally, an approaching mid/upper level short-wave and upper-
level jet could potentially enhance rain rates over this region
through sunrise. Meanwhile, rain showers continue to produce
additional rainfall over the entire Bay Area with more likely to
continue through midday until the trailing cold front pushes
through the region. When all said and done, this storm system may
have underperformed with respect to storm total rainfall across
portions of the Bay Area as a notable dry layer around 800-850 mb
yesterday evening had to first be overcome. That said, the
atmospheric column remains saturated at this time with lingering
showers through the morning potentially making up for the slower
onset of precipitation last evening. Gusty southerly winds in
excess of 45 mph earlier this morning have begun to diminish
during this past few hours as expected. Thus, will allow the Wind
Advisory to expire at 3 AM PST while breezy and locally gusty
winds of 30-40 mph will remain possible through sunrise.
Drying conditions are likely to develop by mid/late afternoon in
wake of the cold frontal passage. This will result in continued
seasonably cool conditions with maximum temperatures generally in
the 60s for much of the region this afternoon. A gradual warming
trend is then anticipated for the remainder of the week and into the
upcoming weekend as high pressure develops aloft. The storm track
also looks to remain north of the region resulting in dry weather
conditions region-wide.
The CPC's 6-10 and 8-14 Day Outlooks continue to highlight above
average temperatures and below average precipitation into mid/late
November. Meanwhile, there are some longer term ensembles showing a
return to a more progressive pattern returning toward the end of the
month.

.AVIATION...as of 10:20 AM PST Monday...For the 18z TAFs. System
continues to move through the area. Lingering showers around the
Bay Area so VCSH included in TAFs for the afternoon. With the
exception of KSTS at LIFR, widespread MVFR with cigs lifting this
afternoon. Skies will still be cloudy but VFR expected this
evening. Stubborn SE winds currently at KSFO, KOAK, KSJC. Models
struggled with the winds this morning, but looking like winds will
stay SE, then veer S/SW as the day progresses. Luckily winds
should be dying down into the evening but still could be locally
breezy. Some low clouds redevelop late overnight bringing MVFR/IFR
conditions.
Vicinity of KSFO...MVFR with VCSH for the next few hours with
lingering showers. SE winds currently prevailing with stronger
winds at KOAK. This afternoon winds should be around 7-10 kts and
become more SW this evening. MVFR cigs expected to lift this
afternoon but will return tonight. Light winds expected tonight
into tomorrow morning.
KSFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.
Monterey Bay...VFR/MVFR, with cigs lifting in MRY currently.
Breezy SE winds through the Salinas Valley but winds to weaken
and shift SW through the morning and W by the afternoon. Some
patchy low clouds redevelop overnight.

.MARINE...as of 08:40 AM PST Tuesday...Small craft advisories for
all ocean zones were continued through Tuesday evening due to
choppy conditions on the waters of 10 foot waves around 10
seconds, despite winds diminishing. Seas will gradually come down
through Tuesday with only breezy winds, though locally moderate
winds will persist along the Big Sur coastal jet. The forecast
calls for lighter winds and seas from mid to late week with
diminishing moderate period west to northwest swell.
