.SYNOPSIS...A gradual warming trend will begin today and continue
through the weekend. Inland locations will experience the most
significant heat in the 90s to low 100s while onshore flow and a
marine layer keep coastal areas cooler. Seasonably warm and dry
conditions will continue next week.

.DISCUSSION...as of 02:01 AM PDT Friday...Coastal stratus remains
over the waters and has settled inland for the night. The marine
layer is still quite deep at around 2,500 ft AGL per the Fort Ord
Profiler. The upper low off the coast that brought a deeper marine
layer will continue to weaken the rest of the day as high
pressure begins to build over British Columbia and into the
Pacific Northwest. This will kick off a gradual warming and drying
trend beginning today while acting to compress the marine layer
throughout the weekend. Temperatures are expected to warm across
the interior today by about 5 to 10 deg F depending on location.
Coastal areas will remain in the 60s and 70s while inland
locations warm into the 80s to low 90s. Night and morning low
clouds will likely continue as well, but may not make it as far
inland each day as high pressure builds and the marine layer
compresses.
Warming will continue on Saturday as high pressure strengthens
and centers over the Pacific Northwest. This will also stretch a
warmer airmass over the region with 850 mb temperatures rising to
25-27 deg C and turning flow aloft more offshore. This will bring
the much talked about dangerous heat to WA, OR, and parts of CA.
At the same time, an upper low will be approaching from the west
acting to keep much of the heat confined to the far interior
portions of the CWA. Saturday looks to be the warmest day of this
event with far inland locations across the North & East Bay as
well as southern interior Monterey/San Benito counties in the
mid/upper 90s to low 100s. These areas will also see warmer
overnight lows in the 60s and 70s. It is advised residents take
caution to avoid heat related illness. Continued warm to hot
temperatures inland are forecast for Sunday as well. Onshore flow
and a continued marine influence will keep coastal areas in the
70s. With that in mind, those looking to escape the heat by
heading to the coast should remember our waters remain cold in the
mid/upper 50s and rip currents are always a present hazard.
High pressure will continue to influence the region into next
week, but will gradually weaken. The warmest interior spots will
likely remain in the 90s with some isolated triple digits also
possible. Coastal and bay areas in the meantime will remain
seasonable at or just above normal throughout the week. Taking a
look into the extended, both the GFS and ECMWF ensembles keep some
form of high pressure over the west at least through Independence
Day. Additionally, pretty much all the CPC temperature outlooks
keep California in above normal temperatures.

.AVIATION...As of 04:29 AM PDT Friday...For the 12Z TAFs.Latest
coastal profilers are signaling marine layer compression this
morning that has resulted in MVFR/IFR cigs engulfing the
terminals. This is in large part due to a weakening low off the
coast that is making way for a building ridge that will continue
to compress the marine layer and bring stratus down to IFR cigs
along the coast and some of the interior valleys this morning. VFR
returns regionwide by late Friday morning, along with light
onshore winds (10-15kts). Given the current marine layer interface
and the decreasing influence of the low, are looking at a return
of the marine stratus (MVFR/IFR) starting around 3Z Saturday.
Vicinity of KSFO...MVFR cigs with light winds as the offshore low
continues to dissipate this morning. Marine stratus will gradually
begin their retreat from the vicinity starting around 17-19Z,
making way for VFR and a continuation of light onshore flow
(10-15kts, occasional gusts up to 21 kts at the San Bruno Gap)
through the afternoon before stratification begins just after 3Z
Saturday, returning MVFR/IFR cigs to the Bay Shoreline.
SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals...Coastal IFR is being observed this
morning with more widespread MVFR along the highlands and northern
Salinas Valley. Cigs will begin to lift by late morning/early
afternoon, making way for VFR cigs and light onshore winds during
the day. Given the forecast marine layer compression, will see a
quick return of MVFR/IFR/patchy LIFR to the coast starting around
3Z Saturday.

.MARINE...as of 04:14 AM PDT Friday...A low pressure system just
off the coast will continue to drift eastward and fully dissipate
today. Surface high pressure will build over the eastern Pacific
this weekend bringing periods of breezy northwest winds across
the waters. This will result in freshly steepening seas and
hazardous conditions for smaller vessels. Breezy afternoon and
evening winds are expected over the bays as well. Seas remain
mixed with a series of light shorter period northwest swells and
a longer period southerly swell.
