.SYNOPSIS...Low clouds and patchy drizzle likely tonight into
Saturday morning. Mainly below normal temperatures are forecast
this weekend and temperatures will likely remain near to slightly
below normal well into next week.

.DISCUSSION...as of 9:45 PM PDT Friday...A low pressure system
will move southward tonight and Saturday. Low clouds will continue
to move inland and result in patchy drizzle, possibly spotty light
rain especially along west facing coastal terrain. The marine layer
deepens and mixes out Saturday as the low continues to slowly move
onward to southern Nevada Sunday. For additional information please

.PREV DISCUSSION...as of 02:12 PM PDT Friday...Satellite imagery
reveals stratus is still hanging on to coastal areas from Marin
County down through the Central Coast. Downtown SF is in the low
50s at this hour with a steady stratus feed over the peninsula -
quite chilly by mid-May standards. Coastal Monterey Bay is also
stuck in the 50s with a continued stratus push. These areas may
not see any sunlight today, or perhaps a brief peak. Elsewhere,
clouds have cleared, and temps are climbing through the 60s. Mid
and upper 70s will likely be reached in the inland valleys today.
Upper trough is visible on water vapor imagery, off the far
northern CA coast. As this trough approaches northern CA, it will
set off some gusty winds along the coast, through coastal gaps and
elevated passes. Already seeing 30+ mph gusts in typically windy
spots, such as Altamont Pass and Byron Airport. Gusty winds will
continue into the evening as an upper low forms over northern CA
and tracks southeastward. Overnight, drizzle near the coast and
even further inland will be likely. NAM and NBM are even showing
some decent accumulating precip along the coastal ranges, maybe a
tenth or two. This seems reasonable with the synoptic setup, deep
marine layer, and favorable west to southwest winds. Areas of fog
will also be likely.
Tomorrow, a significant cooldown will take place for inland areas,
as the upper low cools the boundary layer. Spots that were in the
upper 70s or low 80s today will likely only reach the low 70s
tomorrow. Coastal areas will not see much change, given today's
cloud cover - mainly upper 50s and 60s. Any rain or thunderstorms
generated by the upper low will likely remain north of our CWA and
over the Sierra. Not much change expected Sunday as the the low
moves over southern CA and the Great Basin.
Early next week, some weak ridging will increase temps closer to
normal, before another trough cools us down mid-week. Euro and GFS
keep any rain chances to our north and east, and ensembles are
equally pessimistic for our area. Good news is no fire weather
concerns for the next 7 days.

.AVIATION...As of 9:50 PM PDT Friday...IFR-MVFR ceilings look to
last through the night as a low pressure centers itself over the
area. This low will allow stratus and patchy fog to move inland.
Terminals near the coast look to experience light drizzle through
the night, with the exception of the Monterey Bay, the drizzle
should back off into the early morning. Drizzle may last into the
afternoon for Monterey Bay terminals.
Vicinity of KSFO...Light drizzle and becoming IFR as ceilings
fall below 1000 agl overnight. Westerly winds remain breezy until
the early morning. Chances for drizzle will begin to dissipate as
ceilings rise in the morning. Saturday afternoon returns to VFR
conditions with mild winds before low clouds return late that
night and into Sunday morning.
SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to KSFO.
Monterey Bay Terminals...IFR through the night with mild winds
and drizzle, becoming MVFR in the morning. Drizzle chances and
cloud cover dissipate Saturday afternoon. Low clouds and MVFR
conditions return Saturday night.

.MARINE...as of 09:47 PM PDT Friday...Gusty northwest winds will
continue tonight and early Saturday morning then ease by late
Saturday morning. Northwest winds will continue to generate steep
fresh swell resulting in hazardous sea conditions, particularly
for smaller vessels, until winds ease on Saturday. Winds
diminishing through this weekend, but restrengthening early next
week. Light mixed northwest and southerly swell through the
period.
